Garagiste

(ANDRIOTTI Bourgogne VV) 2009 Red Burgundy Dear Friends, I have no internet access today so I am typing this on my phone from a one-bar signal near Mazauges. If I hold it just right, over my head, the mobile phone demons relent for just enough time to allow a text email out into the heavens....toward you of course. I’ll try to contain my enthusiasm over this wine but it’s going to be a transparent attempt at being stone-faced. Why bother pretending? From a small old-vine parcel of Pinot Noir in the Cote Chalonnaise, if this is a pre-cursor to 2009 red Burgundy, then look out below. I'm not surprised by this as the region is not far from Beaujolais and we already know how giddy the 2009’s are from Morgon et al. So, I will just come out with it... This wine is ga-ga good - silly good for the asking price. I can still taste it the next day (yes, the next day). Not for its massive style or thick texture but quite the opposite – for its unabashed display of liquid rock and soil married to perfectly ripe 2009 Pinot Noir that could only come from Burgundy. The overall presence of terroir, beautiful acidity, low alcohol and medium-weight palate coating fruit (in an elegant way) made every single taster at the table last night pound their fists with delight (a display that rarely happens with the critical group I was part of). Despite how enamored I was with the wine, I contained my euphoria (with a smirk on my face) as a second bottle was waiting for me back at the apt to share with a large group of me, myself and I. I suppose I should have invited everyone back to enjoy the second bottle but, on occasion, I allow my manners and sense of decorum to slip just a bit. Therefore, I will sum this up with a trite but true statement of retailer drivel (not to mention my thumbs are all thumbs when typing on a phone): you may want to stock up on this. The wine should last for a number of years and slowly evolve into a further expression of elegance meshed with the echo-deep fruit tones of 2009.
