  • Color deep red; Nose extremely closed no fruit; medium body with little acidity, relatively smooth, graphite on the finish, decent tannins. Better on second day. A thoroughly unremarkable wine without personality. One of those not-really-good but then not-really-bad wines. Won't be in my shopping cart again.

  • Open about 6 hours: Great nose here, like a dirty ashtray covered in crush blackberries and blueberries. The nose has a savory, smoky quality to it I really like, some leather in there as well. Smells great. Full-bodied. Powerful dark fruit character, bright acidity and balanced tannin. Some stemmy-ness comes through as well, and some dirt road/rock/mineral as well in the finish. It tastes really nice. Hot finish though, the 15.3% abv shows as it warms the throat on the way down and is hot on the palate. Very coating on the palate and in the throat, hangs around for a 20-second finish. It's nice wine no doubt, but sensitive palates might struggle with the abv.
