2002 Mission Hill Syrah SLC (Okanagan) (28/03/2020) Raspberry and strawberry nose with a hint of dust bunny. Still a solid Syrah although the fruit has sagged a touch with the tall tannins having moved to the front row. Biggish yet slightly off balance (think Wun Wun in GoT). Drink up.

One of the favorite wines at a dinner featuring Syrah and Syrah blends, that captures all the virtues of clarity of flavors, delicious raspberry fruit, refreshing acidity, and gentle tannins. Even the alcohol at 13% has a delightful coolness in the mouth, in contrast to a fiery 15%+ in some heavier, more powerful, bumper car Syrahs vying with each other to see who is the biggest blockbuster.

Popped and vinturi'd last night, enjoyed w/a hearty beef soup. A hint of dark fruit, blackberry on the nose, along w/faint vanilla/oak. Medium bodied, and somewhat restrained and elegant, as well as balanced. Still holding up, even after 9 years...solid effort from our friends up north. All the components are here, wanted a tad more flavor.

This was fairly pleasant. At first, many characteristics od Cool Climate Syrah. Some spice, bright raspberry fruit with a touch of blackberry, maybe a touch of menthol and greeness on the finish. I found it quite pleasant. However, there' some residual sugar on the finish, and not a lot of structure, which made the wine rather tiring on the palate toawrd the end of the glass. Still, a solid syrah.
