Garagiste

(KIRCHMAYR Neuberger SOLIST) 1971 Dear Friends, This is one of the rarest wines in Austria and it has just been released from the winery cellar after resting for the better part of 40 years. If you desire the most collectible examples with the best provenance, it doesn't get any better than this (from an Austrian standpoint, that is). The ultimate Kirchmayr, this Solist bottling (the library collection we've highlighted in the past) hails from Neusiedlersee, land of some of the world's most famous sweet wines (Alois Kracher, etc). What makes this wine so unique is that it is botrytis affected (like the top dessert wines) but the Kirchmayr is dry - think Clos St. Hune meets 1959 Huet and you will be close. 1971 was a vintage that needs no introduction - it still ranks for many as the single most famous vintage of the last century in Germany and also in Austria. From this stored year, The 1971 Neuburger has evolved into an elegant lolly and sap filled delight - everything has harmonized and the elements are floaty and nearly weightless despite the obvious extract of the wine. The complex, dry and feminine finish lasts for minutes on the palate - you don't need to drink this with food - it is the food. This wine is approaching its 40th birthday and that amazes me. Still youthful in color, the charm of this style will captivate the most ardent collector and lover of fine wine (even my mom likes it - she's drinking it right now as I write this - happy birthday mom!). A wine for a special night when a beverage of class and refined style are the order of the day. A classic example of how wine ages in a completely different manner if it has done so at the winery cellar (versus anywhere else). You just can't duplicate this level of provenance and it shows. One of a kind. EXTREMELY LIMITED - only five cases released from the winery (for the world, not just us): 1971 Kirchmayr Neuburger Neusiedlersee "Solist" Konig Altwein 700ml (Austria) (even if you see listings for this in the US, I doubt they actually have the wine) ...we also just received these: 2007 FX Pichler Gruner Veltliner "M" Smaragd EXTREMELY LIMITED 2007 FX Pichler Gruner Veltliner "Kellerberg" Smaragd EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Austr2000 Austr2100 Austr2300
