Where the Blonde is like marmalade, the 8 is like unsweetened figs, but with roasty malty coffee notes in perfect harmony. fuller, expansive, but again, light and clean dry finish. At the Abbey-Brewery cafe In De Vrede

Very frothy head. Nose is earthy, with pronounced grain, iron, and mineral notes. Medium-full bodied on the palate. Pleasing flavors of Tootsie Roll, plum, and fruitcake; some mineral notes push forward on the finish. Full palate. 8% alc.. I would like to try this with maybe 5 years of age on it. I strongly preferred this over the St. Bernardus 8.

Coffee, cacao, roasted notes, slight nuttiness, malty with distinct hoppy bitterness; silky, lightly creamy, excellent persistent frothiness, elegant, nice soft bitterness in finish, perfect with rustic soup in winter. La Poupee in Poperinge

Compared to the XII, this beer is clearly from the same brewery, but in everything lighter on its feet.

At Herberg de Vrede. Relatively delicately flavoured brune, malty and earthy, hints of torrefaction, well-rounded, gentle, off-dry, hint of melon.
