  Pretty, pale straw in glass with a palate that expresses this grape in a New World display of richness and depth of flavor not to be found in its Spanish home. Chock full of stone fruit flavors, plus some honeydew melon, a touch of minerality with a nice backbone of acidic structure and a lingering, almost ethereal finish. We love classic Albarino, and this California alternative is everything we'd hoped to find. Going back for a case.

  Qupe Ethan Verdad Winery Tasting (Qupe Tasting Room, Los Olivos, California): Tasted non blind at the tasting room. Straw to light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of grass and wet stones. Light flavors of grapefruit, lime and peach. Medium acidity, light body. Drink now. 88.
