Just the basic Columbia Valley Merlot. Same stuff you buy at Safeway for $7.99 a bottle back in the 1990s. Winemaker probably said drink up in the first 5 years.
Tasted after 90 minutes of air. Medium garnet color. Browning at the edge. Stewed cherry fruit. A bit of funk here. Still holding together nicely. Past its prime for sure but still going strong. Savory plum fruit. Some cocoa. Medium finish. Much better than I would have expected. Mike Januik knows a few things about making great wines.
