Some weren't impressed and it's owner wasn't wholly satisfied with it, but it was the 19th wine of the night and my favorite by far at that point in time. I wrote LOVE in capital letters and noted tootsie roll, pecans and sweet tannins.

While this has seen better days (maybe better decades), it still holds some interest. Sour cherry, salt licorice, earth and leather. Not bad, but not at the level I had hoped.

Initially the nose was an overbearing funk...tasting better than it smelled. Notes of earth, sour cherry, and leather with more cherry around hour 3. Decanted and tasted over 3 hours. Not as complex as other 1971's I've had.

A deep, dark, powerful Barolo. It smells of tar, leather, black olive and cherry liqueur. It is dense and full in the mouth with a strand of licorice weaving through the flavour profile. The fruit really sweetens up from the core with air and it finishes with chewy tannins and lively acidity.

Alive and kicking still in spite of the cork being dried out. Took about 30 min to open up properly. Old mature Barolo nose of pomegranate and autumn leaves. The fruit is still there and together with a agreable acidity this leaves you with a great wine. When opening such an old age bottle it inspires you to be patient with younger Baroli bottles. A positive surprise!
