  • 2 hour decant. Medium ruby color with brown trim. Vibrant aromas of black fruit, leather and tobacco. Tannin and acidity still present. In a really nice spot today but seems likely to continue to age well for the next few years.

  • This was younger and fresher than expected and drinking really well (so much for the CT window!). For sure some brown on the rim, but this did not translate into a weak nose or palate, rather more complex and rounded than I expected with a lot of power. Maybe more fragrance on the nose for a higher score, but for me, this was a lovely expression of Nebbiolo with lots of power balanced with some fragrance.
PS Drink within a couple of years though!

  • Still pretty youthful with bright acidity and integrated fine tannins. Floral and dried leaves with red cherry in the background.

  • Medium red with signs of age, seems quite evolved. A dark fruit profile on the nose: plums and black cherries. Not especially forthcoming but not too reticent either. A nice spicy pine and sandalwood component. Mouthfilling and flavoursome without being full-bodied. A medium weight wine with a lot of flavour. The fruit takes on a not unpleasantly sour aspect, with a hint of bitterness a nice underpinning. Savoury. Very adult flavours. Still quite tannic but nicely balanced and with a very long finish.

  • Ether and strawberry on the nose. On the palate, black cherry and notes of leather and roses, with moderate tannins, a medium finish, and good acidity. Although this was good, it seemed slightly closed, and not at the level other people have described here - perhaps an off bottle?

(MONTERSINO Abrigo) Barbaresco Dear Friends, This is an impressive two-step from Abrigo, especially the 2007 – for my taste the finest wine he’s ever produced. The 2007 vintage continues to impress in the environs of Alba with its combination of massive fruit, minerality and a boisterous, seductive personality that spills bodacious Nebbiolo across the taster’s palate. While many wines appear modern in expression, they somehow combine the best of all worlds. Purists may be dismayed by the rainbow-bright fruit but make no mistake, 1997 or 2000 this isn’t. The acidity, structure and overall balance of the best wines gives them more of an 1989 meets 1990 style – similar to 2010 in Bordeaux. For this classicist, the wines are tough to ignore and they should age for a very long time (unlike 2000). For an interesting comparison, we also have Abrigo’s 2004 Montersino from the exact same parcel of vines. 2004 is considered more of a traditional vintage and the wine has aged in a spectacular fashion (I consumed my last bottle on Saturday night). It represents outstanding value for the genre and the wine is only getting better. (Abrigo Bigna Montesino Barbaresco) #1 (tie); COLOR-dark; NOSE-cranberries and pomegranate; subtle; hints of tobacco; a motor oil component as well; PALATE-this is SPECTACULAR; this is extremely balanced and extremely well made; it's complete; starts with cherries, black currant and almost raisins, then hit earthy grainy profile with strawberries; its' just seamless; SILK; I love the floral components and gaminess; Wow, simply spectacular for under $40 bones; AG-91; GV-94
