  • Not bad but a bit odd. Close to being much better. A bit bitter.

  • This smelled and tasted like total ass as a PnP at cellar temp. It didn't smell or taste flawed, but reeked of cola soda and old grapes. The flavors in the glass were sharp and uninteresting. I let this sit open for 24 hours: This smells waaaaaay better than yesterday. There is still a bit of the cola but there is now some cherry jam in there and the oak is more detectable. I like the rich aromas in the nose. Light-ish mouthfeel. Some old cherry fruit shows as well as that cola, coming off like cherry cola almost on the finish. Short finish, the acidity rises up in the finish and takes whatever flavor there is left over with it on the way out. Tannins are late acting and somewhat abrasive but don't come off harsh in any way. Overall, not a good showing. I have one more bottle that I will hold another couple years just as an experiment. I got this bottle on deep discount for $20 but knowing this wine retailed for close to $40, I would have been very unhappy if I purchased at that price. Not horrible at $20, but not exactly a win, either. I would have scored this wine about 68-70 5 as a cold PnP, it was that bad. I am honestly quite impressed with how it turned around.

  • Dark in the glass. Detectable oak behind a wall of dark cherries, plums, and dry soil. Feels nice in the mouth, somewhat mid-weight but with a fuller intensity. The acid here is strong but balanced and rises into the mid-palate and falls through the finish nicely. The tannins are dusty and come in late and gentle. More dark fruit characters here on the palate, dark cherry, plum, blackberry and even some earthy funk. Medium length finish. I plan on sitting on my remaining bottles, this is cool wine and should age nicely. 88+ EDIT: day 2, I was trying to figure out how to talk to a hint of disjointedness in the feel of the wine on the first day, day 2 is showing a much better constitution, the fullness of the flavor has match well with the body finally. The tannins and acidity are still balanced and the tannins lightly constrict the mouth for what seems like 30-40 seconds. This is some nice wine, I'd be willing to move this to 89 today.
