  • OK so this isn't a wine you want t lay down for the next 20 years but this is one of my favorite sub $20 wines. Take a step back and forget it has a screw top and focus on the juice. This is a complex big nosed wine with many layers. When 1st opened you get a nose full of blackstrap molasses, hot tar and juniper berry. Swirl, sniiff and enjoy the smells of this baby! Once you decide to dive into this big nosed berry bomb your pallet is rewarded with a heavy acidic taste on the tip of your tougue thats smooths out to a complex mouthful of sour citrus and candied apples folllwed up with a hint of cassis, all followed with a very, very long finish of cloves and white pepper. This is a less expensive wine that will exceed your expectations and makes a wine lover go ....wtf! I have spent more for many wines that will never measure up to this one. If you dont have a case of this laid down for the next 5 to 8 years you are going to kick yourself! This is a rocking wine for now and the future.

  • If you haven't been to Airfield Estates' tasting room in Woodinville, you should go just for this wine. Their acidic reds (this and their new Sangiovese) are both superstars. There's not a lot of cellaring structure in this wine, it's meant to be drunk in the next 2-3 years, but good god it's a tremendous vintage for ~$20. You could drink this wine with anything and enjoy the play of sour cherry and a hint of cassis with confident spice. It's delicious.
