  • Hmm, interesting wine. My wife recently brought this back from a biz trip to Provence France; I'd never heard of it. She got it for free, so I have no idea of price point. The abbey is on the island of St Honorat, directly across from Cannes by ferry. Anyway, this is a VdP, labelled as old vine syrah - which it unmistakably is. Nose of beef blood and spice, this could be a cali syrah from the nose. On the palate, it had an immediate richness that also reminded of cali, but after a second or two, a sense of lightness-yet-roundness that I don't find in us or aussie wines. Not at all complex, this was still a good drink.
