Inky dark in the glass - very different in appearance from the other wines tasted today. BBQ ribs and some cooked fruit on the nose, reflecting the age of this library selection. Some raisin and cassis on the palate. Lucky club members are getting this wine!

Tasted July 10, 2006 at home. 14.1% alcohol. Opened and decanted about 30 minutes before serving in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, slightly dusty looking throughout. Nose of plums, black currants, a small floral element, some leather, a little bell pepper and a little black pepper. Flavors of red cherries, red currants, red berries and maybe a touch of cocoa or dark chocolate. Medium to firm tannins, medium to slightly tart acidity and a little hot on the nose and palate. Drink over the short term. Based on the local retail price of $22.99 I'd say the value here is acceptable. Could be upgraded if it weren’t for the “greenness” and “hotness” on the nose.

Had at a restaurant in Carmel. Very reasonable off the list. This was very nice, deep and rich with lots of ripe blackcherry and blackberry fruit. Sweet nose with lots of cassis and blackberry. Very soft with low tannins - firm acidic streak that was slightly green, but did not veer into the capsicum that I often find with Monterey wines. Soft, chocolatey finish. Nice.
