Bottle 1799 of 1980. Popped with no decanting. Dark core with crimson edges in the glass and gave way to a mineral character. Had an interesting almost root beer and bubblegum(?) funk that blew off after about 2 minutes in the glass. That gave way to a big mouth feel and puckering tannins on the finish. Black cherry, red berry liquer and a background of charcoal carried through on the tongue. It shed some of its akwardness as it opened in the glass and bottle, which revealed some oak and a faint presence of black licorice. The finish doesn't seem to hold up to the entry, even though it lasts for 20 seconds or so.

cork bad hate to say it but it's the norm for wines I get at Skinner auctions, I'll rate the taste after it settles down from filtering

nice ripe fruit and has restrained itself a bit thanks to bottle age
