Tasted by kostaslonis on 4/14/2022 & rated 93 points: Brought to drink at Oinoscent
This comes from 50+yo vines of Roussanne, 50% in casks and 50% in wooden tanks, then reained on lees,, 500 cases made
The bottle was decanted at 11:20, rebottled at 12:20, tasted for the 1st time at 12:45

The wine shows deep but bright, crystal clear golden color, so sign of sediment, corked came out in one beautiful piece.
The wine shows an amazing character, extrovert, ripe to overripe mango, peach, apricot, tin pineapple, honey, wax, turmeric/spice notes, fine thin oak layer with a handful smashed almonds sprinkled on top.
In the palate, the wine shows medium body, the fruit intensity is lower compared to the nose, shows acidity and minerality, almond and honey, butter and caramel notes, long layered finish
Outstanding quality. I don't think it would benefit from further ageing. It would be very interesting to pair this with food, but damn its so good to drink on its own!! (1285 views)
Tasted by humagne on 11/28/2021 & rated 94 points: Deep golden colour with some orange. Quince, pear, citrus, honey, beewax. Very creamy and full-bodied with a lingering finish. Ready. (1470 views)
Tasted by cct on 4/24/2021 & rated 93 points: Double decanted and then the bottle left open early in the day. Drunk over three days thereafter.

A waxy and honeyed nose with pear compote, lanolin and a sense of stoniness. Expansive on the palate, deep, waxy, and texturally rich yet not heavy. The phase of pseudo-oxidation has passed and this is drinking at its second peak. Very long on the back end finishes with some nuttiness and bitterness that I think adds to the whole. It is a literal mouthful and a glass or so goes a long way. Texturally like aged white Hermtiage or GC Burg like Batard. Impressive and very interesting, but a little goes a long way. Held up for 3 days in the fridge after being opened. (1930 views)
Tasted by redders on 3/1/2019 & rated 93 points: Colour still with hints of green with the gold. Clearly mature but fresh flowers along with the deep waxy notes. A slight hint of oxidation but not enough to spoil. Great depth and length. Excellent with salted cod brandade (2423 views)
Tasted by Raage on 11/29/2018 & rated 93 points: CdV
(2638 views)
Tasted by redders on 6/13/2016 & rated 94 points: Mid gold but bright. Nose immediately fresh no oxidation. Immense depth waxy rich but balanced. Complex. Lovely depth and richness on palate but enough acidity to lift the finish. Best bottle I have ever had of this wine. Stunning (3325 views)
Tasted by schwank on 6/11/2016 flawed bottle: Oxidized and over the hill. A sad hollow shell of what it could be. (3191 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 2/15/2015 & rated 86 points: Mandarin Napoleon, roasted nuts, white sultanans, rusty nails. Still drinkable, but oxidative notes are marring this wine AND my faith in the ageing capabilities of these White Rhone-wines.. Some of them are profound, but most are oxidised, dormant, corked or otherwise suboptimal...
What a pity... Not my lucky day, vinously speaking. (3796 views)
Tasted by graemeg on 11/14/2014: Wine-Pages Offline - London (Vinoteca, Soho): {cork, 13.5%} (Phil & Sonia) Aged, wax and lanolin flavours, not without an oxidative character, but enticing none-the-less. Medium/full-bodied, with softening acidity, yes, but this is gloriously at peak; near-20 year-old Roussanne might be something of an acquired taste, but this coats the palate so evenly and with such majestic presence that surely even those unsympathetic to its character could appreciate it. Wonderful; but drink now obviously, unless you’re determined to gamble further with cork! (3817 views)
Tasted by Lordswood on 4/1/2013 & rated 91 points: Quite golden colour. I was worried that this was going to be oxidised, and while there was a touch of oxidation, this seemed to add to the freshness and complexity. Beautifully balanced and delicious (4263 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 12/31/2012: Meh. Deep gold and oxidative if not totally oxidized. No, it's not totally dead, but it should have been consumed in youth (3284 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 6/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Keith's Blind Challenge 2012 (The Square, London): Blind. Very full old gold to copper. VA (acetone) on the nose. That Beaucastel VV oat biscuity thing on the palate. Smooth. Judging from maturity and relative quality, probably the 96. ***1/2 (3870 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 6/15/2012 & rated 87 points: 9th Annual Blind Challenge (The Square, Mayfair, London): Butterscotchy, almondy, oxidative. Has a lot in common with a poxed burgundy, but somehow one can sense that this is meant to taste like this. I'm half expecting Keith to serve a Tondonia, but this lacks the acid and austerity of a LdH. Rhone seems more likely Once Simon has said Beaucastel I'm sure he's right. The taste is interesting, but not pleasurable. (4396 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 10/31/2011 & rated 89 points: Beaucastel v Vieux Télégraphe 1978-1990 (The Square, Mayfair, London): Rich and concentrated, almost sweet, not as oxidative as I'd expected, fine and expensive tasting, but a bit heavy right now (4854 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 9/24/2010: Southern Rhone WIMPS (The Ledbury, London): Dull, old gold colour. Slightly oxidised nose. A touch saline. Quite rounded and rich. Wasn't sure initially but actually the touch of oxidation doesn't bother me. Quite rounded and rich. Recognisably Beau VV. ***(1/2?) (3418 views)
Tasted by Beachrooster on 6/19/2010 & rated 90 points: Clear and very dark gold. Aromas of pear, apricot, cinnamon, and limestone. Soft and lush feel. High viscosity, nice acid, and fading fruit. Long finish with acid and tannins crossing the line side by side. (2963 views)
Tasted by Beachgrub on 5/2/2009 & rated 89 points: Small bit of oxidization that seemed to blow off. Wonderful waxy melon taste with a full honeyed finish. (3264 views)
Tasted by MC on 8/31/2008: Sherry like with a nice earthy, oily finish. Reasonable evolution, and seems to be coming out of the dumb phase - but not the wine I had hoped it would be. B (3102 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 8/18/2007 & rated 90 points: Exploring Chateauneuf-du-Pape @ Peter Z. (Belgium): Pale golden colour. Oxidative notes on the nose which blew off after a few hours. Hazelnut, almond, flintstone, coriander, dried citrusfruit. A delicate freshness lies underneath. Wonderful wine with huge gastronomical potential. Drink in 2 to 10 years. 17,5/20 (4084 views)
Tasted by Dave Dalluge on 5/21/2007 & rated 89 points: Dinner with Brad England and Steve Sigmond: Purchased by Steve four hours before the dinner. Popped and poured. The color is a pure but very deep gold. The nose was extremely reticent at first, but opened up nicely over the course of the dinner. Aromas included honey, orange, nut, and mineral. Slightly sense of being oxidized. After sitting in the glass awhile it developed a melon note. Steve thought cantelope, but it was a strong pumpkin for me. This faded in time. On the palate this is thick and syrupy with very low acidity. More nuts and honey. Decent length on the finish. A nice enough wine, but not one to stock up on. (4178 views)
Tasted by Siggy on 5/21/2007 & rated 88 points: An experimental bottle that I picked up to try at dinner. Deep gold color. Good fruit flavors - melon/cantaloupe, honey, hazelnuts, and popcorn. Pleasant enough, but short on acidity and intensity. I think this wine has come out of its oxidized/dumb phase, and given the low acid, should be drunk up. (3329 views)
Tasted by dbg on 8/7/2002: great concentration, but going dumb, should be better in 5 years (3098 views)
Tasted by dbg on 8/26/2001: light yellow-gold, nose of citrus flinty stones with sweet floral
elements and hints of pungent spices, very full-bodied and smooth,
almost oily on the palate, great concentration, excellent balance
between fruit and acidity, leaning towards the soft side (3089 views)

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
