Bottles consumed unblinded over the course of the evening. Bottles were drunk in the order listed, and notes written 2 days after the dinner.
WOTN was the Switchback Ridge merlot, with a divided vote for #2 -- Potensac, Janzen, or the Roth merlot.
2011 Bacio Divino Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen 88 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Light in body/structure, yet enjoyable to drink. This cab avoided the vegetal flavors of some unripe 2011's, and is actually fairly fruit forward. However, this lacks mid-palate density and has a short finish. So a decent wine considering the vintage, but a poor QPR.

2010 Château Potensac 89 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc
From magnum.
This took awhile to open up, and had a hard time showing well at this point in its evolution when drunk alongside California cabs and merlots. However, the potential is here. One of the group, who prefers Bordeaux to Napa, loved this wine and it was her WOTN runner-up.

2010 Switchback Ridge Merlot Peterson Family Vineyard 91 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
WOTN for the group, by far (although most of the group had previous high opinions of this wine).
Silky smooth tannins, yet with enough structure to stand up to an array of food thrown at it. Outstanding.

2010 Roth Estate Merlot 88 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
A good merlot at this price point, but not all too memorable.

2012 St. Francis Zinfandel Old Vines Sonoma County 84 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County
A poor zinfandel - overripe without structure.

2010 Rua 89 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Fruit forward, this was well liked by the group. Similar to my previous note, the lack of structure prevents me from liking this more. An easy drinker!

2010 Matchbook Tempranillo 87 Points
USA, California, Central Valley, Dunnigan Hills
This seemed to be a solid easy drinking California tempranillo at the price point, although not too memorable.
