Charlie Trotter's - Chicago IL
Tasted Tuesday, February 28, 2012 by Burgundy Al with 860 views
Dinner hosted by Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe with Jeremy Seysses from Domaine Dujac, also tasting his great value wines from Domaine Triennes in Provence. Great wines, great lineup.
Intense citrus aromas which continue onto the palate. Long flavors with prominent acidity. Lots of power, good life going forward.

My glass had a soap issue so I was unable to taste, but the aromas from another glass showed intense lemon and lemon peel character.

Lemon and green apple with plenty of spice on nose and palate. Great acidity, great textures. Very powerful towards finish.

Very ripe apple on nose with some lemon hints and modest spice. Lush apple and pear flavors to start, turning more lean and linear in middle with an acid-driven finish.

Floral and perfumed start with ripe red fruit. Palate of red cherry and strawberry with Herbs de Provence and a touch of licorice. Silky textures with impressive elegance and balance. Kept picking up density through the evening.

Very ripe red fruit on nose with lots of perfumed character. Very good spice aromas and flavors. Red and black cherry on palate. Didn't come across as perfectly pristine, slightly less interesting than another bottle tried in late 2011. Same overall perspective - drink these up. Jeremy said this is how the wine has been consistently showing.

Sensational in every way, my WOTN. Red and black cherry aromas with sensational spice and perfume. Big, lush fruit on palate with incredible textures, nuance and complexity.

I brought this as a fun addition to the lineup and was very pleasantly surprised by how well it showed. I believe it was open an hour+ when served and wish we popped and poured. At first it showed great dried rose petal character. Earthy flavors with lingering red cherry and very good textures. Dropped off in interest after about 15 minutes, then stayed all night at a very earthy plateau.

Spicy aromas with both black and red ripe cherry. Same lush fruit on the palate. Very good mineral and acid character. Long, expanding finish. This kept improving through the evening. Still upside from here, but alas this was my final bottle.

Started with black cherry and blackberry with subtle perfume. Powerful and tannic on palate with plenty of black cherry, licorice and tarragon. Very long and powerful on finish. Also kept getting better for hours over the course of dinner. Not even close to its peak drinking window.

Red cherry aromas with wonderful savory spice. Mostly red cherry with strawberry hints, well balanced with corresponding earthy flavors. At its drinking peak now. While I really enjoyed this wine, others thought it even better, in fact wine of the flight (in a great flight).

Very sturdy wine that has taken a long time to reach this great place. Very perfumed with plenty of strawberry and red cherry. Delicate fruit to start with a great, big spicebox. Very alluring for a 1995, compared with what i remember when tasted 5+ years ago when it came across as more "1995" with assertive and awkward acidity.

Starts with licorice, rosemary, roses and black cherry. Dense black cherry and blackberry flavors, very powerful and meaty. Already in balance, but a bit tightly wound that will really provide great pleasure when this smooths out in another 5-10 years. Glad I have a 6-pack.

Big black cherry on nose and palate. Nose more reserved than other vintages tasted alongside. Dense fruit on palate with lots of tannins. Modest spice on finish. This needs lots of time in cellar to smooth out.

Blackberry aromas with a slightly roasted character, along with some some espresso background elements. Powerful black cherry and blackberry flavors, also with a slightly roasted, almost burnt finish. Very 2003.

Mostly black berries on the nose with dense, meaty spice. Same big spice on palate with dense fruit that is slightly hidden today behind the wine's sneaky structure. Compact for now. I really like this wine for its long-term potential based on its aromas and lush, powerful, spicy finish.

Not very forthcoming aromatically. Lots of firm, lean red fruit on the palate with wonderful acidity and minerality. Still needs more time. If tasted blind, I never would have suspected this was from Dujac.

Floral and alluring nose with cherry and spice with just a trace hint of intriguing funk. Palate also shows black fruit and modest spice but is very short and simple, also a bit flabby.

Plum and cassis on nose with hints of dark chocolate. Same big black fruit on palate, very dense and concentrated, still with lots of baby fat. Showing much more balance than I remember from when last tasted 4 or 5 years ago, this is drinking well now but should continue to improve for at least another 5 years.

2011 Triennes Rosé 88 Points
France, Provence, Var
Exceptional value wine, so easy to imagine drinking this summer while sitting on the deck. Strawberry on nose with a floral touch, followed by grapefruit and strawberry on palate. Jeremy said this is mostly Cinsault.

2009 Triennes Viognier Sainte Fleur 85 Points
France, Provence, Var
Floral start with some ripe fruit. Somewhat lush fruit on palate, clearly Viognier in style, slightly compact on finish. Also a good value.
