All wines were tasted blind.
Almost purple red still. Beautiful complex bouquet with luxury wood, black currants, blackberries, cigar box and a little lead pencil. On the palate it is the same; abundance! Good concentration, power, firm as well as a load of soft tannins, juicy, bitterness, a little sweetness. It has a long aftertaste with black currants. A beauty already, but that will last for several years.

Blood red with a garnet rim and not so very dark. Beautiful refined bouquet with exquisite wood and black currants. In the taste lead pencil like in Pauillac and a lot of firm tannins and soft black currants.

Blood red. Chocolate, fine wood, mocha and black currants in the bouquet. An enormous amount of black currant juice and bitterness in the taste. Ink. Blockbuster. Will this wine ever soften and show its merits? Would like to try it again after 5 years.

Fairly light garnet colour. Barnyard and butter in the already mature bouquet. Mature, soft, juicy and friendly wine. A bit drying tannins in the aftertaste. A beautiful wine alright, but only a shadow of the good vintages they had in the 80’s.

Dark garnet red. Chocolate and cigar box in the bouquet. Also in the taste a lot of chocolate, bitterness and black currant juice. Good concentration. I love this wine now, but I have my doubts about the future. On one hand the wine has a firm structure, but on the other it is so mature already. It might well be it is at its peak right now.

Got this wine blind. The bouquet was a bit odd. Not very pleasant. In the taste juicy overripe fruits, a bit sweet and firm tannin. Although the smell did not improve so much after a while, the taste did and was definitely complex.

Beautiful complex bouquet, luxurious oak, cigar box. Juicy and a lot of sweetness in the start. Then soft tannins, a load of black currants, ink, acidity and sweetness again. A very beautiful wine. The acidity is a very little out of balance, which holds the score a bit down.

Enormous luxurious bouquet; cedar and all the black forest fruits you can think of. This wine has a lot of power with sweetness, acidity, cigars, leather, forest fruits and everything in very good harmony. I love it!

In the bouquet barnyard and an impression of metal. The taste is creamy, juicy with a lot of berries and other fruits like cherries. A fair amount of acidity and a little sweetness.

Purple red. In the bouquet a lot of fruit, mainly cherries, and fresh tobacco. The taste is round and concentrated, little pepper and a lot of fruit juice. Little sweetness as well. The wine is backward at the moment and that probably explains the lack of complexity in the taste at this moment. When it opens up the score will definitely be higher.

Blood red. Chocolate, wood, a bit dusty(?) in the somewhat locked bouquet. Round juicy, some oak, friendly tannin and firm bitterness and some sweet notes. The wine is not very thick.

Blood garnet red. Beautiful bouquet with mainly black currants, beautiful oak and some lead pencil. Juicy, lot of fruit and a bit sticky tannins.

Garnet red. Complex, a bit dusty bouquet. Very beautiful. Sweet juicy start, full bodied, juicy, good tannin, very well integrated oak. Beautiful.

Wonderful elegant but firm wine. Complex, filled with fruit. Forgot to write much down while I was enjoying this wine ;-)

Yippee!!! Purple red. Only luxury. I have no words for it.

An outstanding wine. Very luxurious oak, good bitterness, cassis, black berries, graphite, a little backward but very enjoyable. Although I am usually no so impressed by Mouton’s achievements, this wine is ok, but for a first growth……..?

Blood red. Still somewhat backward in the bouquet, but there are some red fruits noticeable. A sweet start followed by an enormous amount of bitterness from the tannin. Fruit as well, but this wine definitely needs more time to open up. Let’s say at least 2 more years.

Blood red. Beautiful lead pencil / oak / black currant bouquet. In the taste exactly the same. Luxurious wine which is definitely much too young.

Garnet-blood-red.. Bouquet still not completely opened up. Nice oak and black fruits. The wine starts with a hint of sweetness, a lot of soft juice and tannins, well integrated oak. This is an outstanding wine which will even be better in a few more years.

Blood/purple red. Backward but very friendly sweet bouquet. The wine is juicy, but has a lot of acidity. Overall I wondered if they used American oak.

Drank this wine (blind) in a great Bordeaux line-up. It was quite light garnet/blood-red in colour compared to the other wines. Still a little backward. Woody, fruity, berries, a little sweetness. A-typical to the rest and not extremely impressive. But nevertheless an excellent wine.

Blood red. Beautiful ripe, refined bouquet. Sweet start, soft acidity. Very elegant and polished wine with a lot of juice and sufficient good tannin to ripen for many more years.

Beautiful ripe, refined bouquet with butter. A lot of juice in combination with bitterness and a bit drying tannin. Even though still very young. Complex wine.

Beautiful refined bouquet with good oak and even a little barnyard. Butter, juice, sweetness, good tannins. A very good achievement for l’Enclos!

Not many notes; too busy enjoying. Great and complex wine. Good cassis and elegant toasted oak. Now already beautiful, but with a good future.

Almost black. Very concentrated, black berries, lead pencil. A very luxurious wine, but still too young. Give it 4-5 years or more. Then it will definitely be a 98 points wine. Good effort!

Complex bouquet, little horse stable, wood, cherries. Juicy, firm, blackberries, It has enough tannins, but the wine seems ripe already. I have a few bottles left; future will tell….

1995 Château Léoville Barton 90 Points

Blood red. The bouquet is like a forest in the autumn; ripe cherries, blackberries etc. In the taste the wine has quite much acidity, soft bitterness and overripe fruits. Still young.

1994 Château Léoville Las Cases 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
The bouquet is slightly developed, but in a stage where it does not give itself completely. The same goes for the taste; some tannins have softened, but there are plenty of tannins and acids to give the wine many more years. For the rest this is a Las Cases as it should be, with a lot of black currants, lead pencil, etc. Wait for at least 2 more years or decant it in time.
