[Magnum] Great butterscotch and buttered popcorn nose. Piercing acid on the palate still. Good richness and developing nice nutty scents and flavors. Very creamy as well. Good balance of energy and maturity. Persistent. A fantastic showing out of this tonight.
The nose here is is both classic and spectacular. Florals, acrylics, and smoked meat. Highly expressive but with bold red fruit too. The palate is excellent as well with nicely integrated tannin, still well structured and endowed with fruit, but rich earth-laden fruit. Fantastic. Really love this.
Bold red and black berry fruit nose with pronounced spice. More robust fruit than earth influence than the rest of the ‘91 flight. Lush and opulent on the palate. Hedonistic drinking, bold. This bottle was from the domaine's cellar, and was accordingly a particularly youthful and fresh showing.
Red berry and rhubarb. Maybe a touch stewed relative to the others in the ‘91 flight. A mild brown sugar spice. Similarly a touch raisiny on the palate, although still has big black fruit too.
Red cherry and subtle smoke on the nose. Trace scorched earth, still mostly pure and clean fruit. Palate has both vibrancy and development with nice earth influence.
Great bouquet with pronounced bouldery minerality, acrylics, smoked meat, and red and blue fruit with mild earth influence. Super expressive and showy. On the palate the fruit here is a little riper and very approachable. Structured and lively. Commanding mid palate and finish, immense flavour and complexity.
Spent coffee grounds, scorched earth, smoked meats, damp leather, and classic Jamet acrylics and pastel. Spectacularly expressive bouquet. On further discussion there is a lot of reduction here. On the palate this is still delicious with bold fruit and robust structure. The reduction on the nose begins to show a little like balloon plastic though.
Again this is reading younger with sweet blue berry fruit on the nose. A baked blueberry pie. A little wildness on here too. Palate is straightforwardly bold and blue. Meaty. This bottle was not from the Rostaing sellers like the '91, but was equally as youthful and fresh.
Earth and soil and a little wild. Some purple perfume. Animalistic. On the palate the acidity is a touch sharp and relative to the rest of the flight this is drinking slightly angular. Struggling to get a lot out of this, especially relative to the company. Same with '91.
Spectacular bouquet that rivals that on the Jamet: florals, forest floor, smoky meats, cigar tobacco, and robust red and black fruit. Good spice too. A certain delicacy of flavor on the palate. Lingering nuance and complexity. Second wine of the flight, after the Gentaz, but perhaps more intriguing in certain ways.
Campfire, blueberry, wild animal, dark chocolate, smoked meat. Deeply nuanced and complicated nose. After the initial nose blows off there is fresh blueberry here. Brooding and intellectual. On the palate this is a rich and immensely flavorful mouthful, full of earth-laden fruit. Persistent finish. Just spectacular. Absolutely confirms that the bottle last month was off.
Elegant blackberry and blueberry with restrained spice. Quieter and cleaner relative to the rest of the flight. Surprised given the dominant performance of the ‘91 and ‘88. The aromatic edge goes to the Jamet regular Cote-Rotie though. Red and blue berry palate.
Horse hoof, damp hay, mild scorched earth, and bold blackberry and blueberry fruit. Lovely florals. Acrylics. Precise. Aromatics are hard to explain. On the palate this has immense earth-laden fruit flavor with interesting texture and a driving finish. I love this.
This has some horse shit and wild animal on the nose along with a curious spritz. Hay. Expressive though. The palate is lively and has bright red fruit up front plus a strong mid palate and flavors that carry through a nice finish.
Blackberry and blueberry fruit nose. Quiet in terms of earth but very pure and clean in terms of fruit. Big tannin, relatively speaking, and another bold and deeply flavorful mouthfeel. All the Rostaings showed so young tonight.
