Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2015 Domaine Michel Gros Chambolle-Musigny

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

2/3 is from Les Argillières, a lieu-dit that directly abuts Musigny on its northern border. The rest is from Les Maladières, Les Mombies, & Les Nazoires .

N: Smoke, spice, earth, & berries

P: LM body; Rndish entry with NICE frt met by some very, VERY finely tannic pucker which only somewhat resolves by the LONG, spicy, very, VERY finely tannic finish with hints of swtness. NEEDS into '20, poss more, then drinking through its 10th... easily. IMPRESSIVE! 89-91 pts Burghound. [While certainly COMPETITIVE, wine-searcher does list one April 2018 source for $2 < this vendor's $74.95.]

  • 2014 Marchand & Tawse / Pascal Marchand Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Perrières

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

70% destemmed bunches, aged for 18 mos in 50% new FR oak barrels from the Allier forest; Unfiltered/Unfined

N: Clsd; Some earth, toast, berries?

P: LM body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by a very, VERY finely tannic pucker with hints of swtness which is ULT what shows up @ the VERY end of the LONG, slightly spicy, still (at least somewhat) very, VERY slightly tannic finish. NEEDS until early '20, then potentially superb for drinking into '25, poss longer. 90-93 pts Burghound. [Tough to compare this vendor's $71.95 as they're the ONLY U.S. source showing on wine-searcher in April 2018.]

  • 2015 Mongeard-Mugneret Savigny-lès-Beaune

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune

    N: Closed; spice, toast, earth

P: LM body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by a very, VERY finely tannic astringency with a bit of pucker. The finish is LONG, spicy, & still very, VERY finely tannic. NEEDS until early '20, then drinking for a couple of yrs thereafter. NICELY done. 85-88 pts Burghound. [This vendor's $42.95 puts it @ the bottom of wine-searcher's April 2018 top i/2.]

  • 2015 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Nuits St. Georges Vieilles Vignes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges

“The vines at the origin of our Nuits Saint Georges Vieilles Vignes (Old Vines), located at an altitude of 245m, grow on a shallow alluvial cone, calcareous and stony, at the bottom of the slope.” Grapes from 3 diff plots, all stony, & 2 of them calcareous; 50% new oak

N: Closed; berries, smoke, with minerals?

P: LM, poss Med, body; NICE frt quickly met by puckerish, very, VERY fine tannins which, surprisingly, QUITE resolve by the LONG, spicy finish with the notes of those very, VERY fine tannins & a touch of bitterness from time to time. NEEDS at least into Summer '19, then drinking for several more... easily. [This vendor's $44.95 is $5 < than the only other source listed on wine-searcher in April 2018.]
