Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought yourself was poured.
2004 Elvio Cogno Barolo Vigna Elena 90 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Quite brownish color. In the mature bouquet earth, autumn forest and licorice.. On the palate earth and leather, chocolate, coffee, licorice and laurel. Good acidity and still sticky tannin. Although quite mature, the tannin is not tired yet. Hard to score, but 90 for the complexity seems to be about correct for me.

2005 Elvio Cogno Barolo Bricco Pernice
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Earth and chocolate, sweet spices, tobacco, tea and rust in the bouquet. On the palate chocolate, earth, coffee and laurel. Ok acidity and bitterness. A tasty and very mature wine. (The person who brought the bottle, opened another one the weekend after and that bottle was much fresher and less mature, so this evenings’ bottle was probably an off bottle. So no score.
