Pier 60 - NYC
Tasted Saturday, March 7, 2020 by Nanda with 151 views
What an incredible night. My notes represent about half of what we tasted -- just too many glasses too fast to capture more complete notes. Can't believe I didn't take notes on the Rousseau Chambertin flight! Oh well, next time ;-)
2004 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Corton-Charlemagne 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Magnum. Showing mature flavors though texturally this is rich with mineral crispness. Best now.

2005 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bâtard-Montrachet 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Side by side with 07. Surprisingly, I preferred the 05 for now as it was shower intense yet seamless power. Great smoky orchard fruit and mineral flavors.

2007 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bâtard-Montrachet 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Side by side with the 05. Likely the better wine in another year or two, but the 05 was a touch more expressive tonight. This is a very rich and powerful wine - just seems to be holding back a touch. Upside from here.

2017 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Wow, so intense and powerful with rich, driving fruit yet ethereal and lifted. Fun now, but clearly needs time to develop nuance.

2002 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet 90 Points

Showing a bit mature with lightly oxidized fruit. Lacking energy and freshness. Ok but you'd hope for so much more.

2000 Coche-Dury Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 98 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Wow, one of my whites of the night. A dazzling wine with so much intensity and complexity in the aroma and on the palate. Just a lights out, long, intense finish.

2002 Coche-Dury Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières Flawed
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Something weird going on here with a peanut type aroma. Palate was better but not close to what this should be (particularly following a stunning 2000).

1978 Maison Leroy Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
I found this to be just okay, while others liked it more. Cider-like flavors with some layering of earth notes. Reasonably fresh for a 42 year old, but more interesting than enjoyable.

1993 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Mature with a full, intense nose of bruised apple and pear. Fairly rich and layered with plenty going on but lacked a degree of freshness vs. some of the other Laguiche Montrachet bottles.

1989 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
I preferred this to the '93 served side-by-side. This had a touch more nuance and complexity and more body/freshness on the palate. The overall package was both interesting and delicious.

Earthy and leathery nose. Palate is more primary with sweet and round fruits that are fresh. Earth, meat and herb add complexity.

Similar to the 91 tasted earlier but just a bit more muted and less intense. Incredible on its own but the side-by-side showed its not of the same caliber.
