This is the 3rd of our three Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru tastings. We started with the 1er Crus from the far northern end of the appellation, near the combe, and continued with wine mostly from Clos St Jacques and Lavaux St Jacques, plus the nearby vineyards. Tonight we concluded with the 1er Cru vineyards near town center.
2002 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Dense and meaty with layers that are evolving in front of us, still bright and powerful. Good depth and breadth.

2002 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Very ripe and meaty and firm, unmistakably Gevrey with good enough freshness, but best to drink up.

1999 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Very complex and certainly meaty with lots of power and grace. Long, lifting finish. So good now.

1999 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Maybe not the most handsome or elegant Gevrey 1er Cru, but this is completely engaging and enthralling with so much back fruit, meaty character and woodsy spice. Some awkward elbows come through, but so much power and complexity. Great now with possible upside. Bravo!

2001 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Mature black fruit with plenty of well cooked mushroom. Good enough weight, much better length with so much finesse.

2009 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
In vertical. Least interesting to me, this was very 2009 with its fleshy richness, but less complex vs 2001 or 2010. Good now, but slightly lacking depth.

2010 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Now we’re talking! Dense meatiness with layers of black cherry, plum and anise and good+ depth. OK it’s not Serafin Cazetiers, but still charming at his age, with obvious upside potential.

1999 Domaine Joseph Roty Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fontenys 87 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Pales in comparison to 2002. Getting tired, losing steam with fully mature black fruit.

2002 Domaine Joseph Roty Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fontenys 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Served alongside 1999. Good depth and weight, with some awkwardness but lots here. Very good concentration and stuffing.

2001 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Meaty black fruit in prototypical Gevrey style with good+ concentration, but this never fully expressed the fruit intensity I enjoy from the best vintages// vineyards from Bernard Dugat-Py.

1999 Domaine Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Fully mature black fruit with good depth, just slightly more tannin than remaining fruit or spice. Best to drink up. Note this had been open for 4+ hours and divided into smaller bottles for our virtual tasting, so a fresher tasting might have been better.

2010 Domaine Bruno Clavelier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux Vieilles Vignes 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
In Corbeaux 2010 horizontal. Very tasty, ripe and spicy with good enough depth and very good balance. Not particularly "Gevrey" to me but very enjoyable now.

2010 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
A charming lighter styled Gevrey, with the worst thing I can say being it wasn't the 2010 Fontenys from earlier in the night. Very approachable and elegant. Good now. Almost everybody's WOTF, but I preferred the Bachelet.

2010 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux Vieilles Vignes 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Complex in every way. Lean and ripe. Tart and sweet. Rich and earthy. This a complex wine in the making, hinting at greatness to come, 2025 forward. My fav of the flight, even if everybody else disagreed.
