This was the reincarnation of the much loved and always anticipated annual holiday party for the big group. After missing last year, it was great to be able to get together and celebrate. We had a cozy group of 22 at local favorite, St. Genevieve. With one of our favorite chefs and friends, Steven Brown as our host and chef for the evening, his team put together a great menu and provided the stellar service we always appreciate. This was a memorable evening in challenging times. Cheers to all for a fabulous holiday season!
2014 Louis Roederer Champagne Vintage Brut 93 Points
France, Champagne
Light gold color. Tasting pour. This was an attention getter and the Champagne of the evening. Very impressive depth and breadth, a nice core of orchard fruit, well toasted, and long. 93+(+?).

Light gold color. Tasting pour. Consistent with my last bottle. These are solid to the core, always taut with great mineral drive. Love it.

2012 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Special Club Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay 93 Points
France, Champagne
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 20 minutes. My bottle and didn't really take any notes, but was duly impressed. This has a lovely chalkiness and is mineral driven, yet there's plenty more going on here in this energetic citrus laden honey. Excellent now, should get better.

NV Marc Hébrart Champagne Premier Cru Brut Rosé 92 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Pale salmon color. Tasting pour. Lovely strawberry, peach, crisp and fresh, light floral notes and a finely knit mineral delineation. Always a winner, the best QPR rose out there I suspect.

2013 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Light gold color. Drank a glass of the '13 and '15 side by side along with a small pour of the '13 Bougros. All three of these wines were outstanding. The '13 vintage shines with its steely, chiseled minerality. Steely, lemon, bright florals, great tangy lemon-lime, saline and ocean brine, very long.

2015 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Light gold color. Drank a glass of the '13 and '15 side by side along with a small pour of the '13 Bougros. All three of these wines were outstanding. The '13 vintage shines with its steely, chiseled minerality. The '15 is deeper and more broad, butterscotch, citrus, lightly toasted, deep swampy saline, full bodied and long.

2013 Michel Bouzereau et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. Brought this to the holiday party at St. Gen. I have to say I was duly impressed by this bottle. Really nice minerality and stone fruit, poised and lifted, this carries its depth and intensity beautifully. Loved it.

2001 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino 92 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Small glass, same bottle as Chablis28, I concur with his thoughts. This was surprisingly youthful, deep brooding dark fruits, charcoal and gravelly minerality, oak and still firm tannins.

1984 Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
USA, California, Napa Valley
Very dark red color with 7mm transitional margin. Brought this to the holiday party with hopes after Coravining a little to check on it first. The first whiffs had a lot of bottle stank and didn't look great, but sitting in the glass for 15 minutes revealed a nice bit of pretty red cherry and dried roses on a rather featherweight engaging palate. After that, I thought it would need a little air to come around at dinner. Unfortunately, it never really panned out that way coming off as old and dull with funk, sundried tomato, ripe black cherries. Drinkable but not satisfying.

1996 Château Léoville Poyferré 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Opened this after the disappointing '84 Mayacamas and was rewarded. Just on a pop and pour, this was showing beautifully. Man, I love the '96 vintage in Bordeaux. This has a great perfume and a lovely mix of dark berries, leather and pencil. Love it.

2007 Sine Qua Non Grenache Pictures
USA, California
Small glass over an hour. This was not much different from my note 5 years ago. And my one note on it tonight was: "This has got some nuts." That it does, bold, flashy dark berry fruits and liqueur. A little more integrated now.

Arf. Add this to the list of failures noted here; sadly with a couple to come I expect.
