Nose decaying forest floor leaves touch of dark cherry. More dark fruit - cherry and blackcurrant - on palate. Mature, dark earthy, some liquorice. Decent balance and vibrant acidity. Drinking well at its age although not the most complex. Notably thin compared to later (better quality) vintages of the Second Vin.
Relatively closed nose, cherry, black currant, wood, again some spice. Blackcurrant and cassis on palate with tobacco leaf, cigar box. Quite dense. More structured than 2004. Beginning to show very well.
Cassis, cherry, rapsberry nose. Some tobacco and liquorice. Palate cassis, dark fruits, some tobacco. Spices. cedar. Large, powerful, complex wine with layers. Long, complex finish. Noticeable uptick in quality. Impressive.
Still young and very tannic but showing great structure, delicate, finesse. Less powerful than 2010. Complexity and lots of acidic freshness. See above for sorts of notes - all present. Everything perfectly balanced. Tremendous potential and will age and age.
Still very young but anticipated score 94-96 when fully mature.
Open and more fruit forward compared to the 2010. Cassis, cherry, lovely warm cedar and tobacco hints. Less acidity than 2010 but lovely and feels in a v good place to drink right now. Very good quality wine, punching well above its Second Vin status. If I had to pick, I would rate this above the 2010 (at least to drink now).
Second time drinking this during the day, had side by side with the 2009 vintage.
Slightly less open than 2009. More acidity. Feels younger than 2009 although excellent potential as it continues to mature. Some lovely cedar on the finish. Neck and neck with 2009 today but in the future this might well be better.
I agree that this would have easily been a classified growth in 1855 - indeed it rivals the Grand Vin of many of the more average 20th Century vintages.
Second time drinking during the day. Absolute baby compared to the 2009 and 2010 but showing excellent potential as it comes into maturity. Everything in a fantastic balance.
Still very young but anticipated score 94-96 when fully mature.
Fairly muted nose, some mature earthiness with dark fruits. Palate dark fruit, some oak and smokey tobacco note. Good balance, acidity and freshness still. Not so complex and thinner compared to some of the younger vintages. Not the longest finish. Solid mature claret nonetheless.
Deep ruby, nose of mature forest floor with dark fruits. Some subtle menthol on nose too. Palate dark fruit cassis, blackberry, black currant along with mature tertiary notes of forest floor, graphite, tobacco. True concentration but still with a fresh acidity. Awesome density and complexity.
Sensational finish, one of the longest I've ever experienced. Such a contrast to the Petit Mouton drank alongside on that front (although that was already good compared to most wines). It just kept going and going revealing all the layers and complexity.
From a perfectly stored bottle with BBR (actually 3). All double decanted and left to open in bottle for 2+ hours before serving. This was everything I'd want from a First Growth from a great vintage. Drinking well now but will continue going for decades. A fantastic wine. What an honour.
Really special and an honour to try although just a sip as I knew the high alcohol content would spoil the next day and I wanted to focus on the line up of wines from Mouton Rothschild. No note other than a lovely nose.

Younger nose, classic Bordeaux, cherry and blackberry with warm spices. Palate of same fruits with an earthy under tone. Elegant. Long finish.

Still v young but showing great structure. Exuberant. Fresh though less acidity than 2016. Rich. Some more tropical fruit??
Still very young but I can see this being 94-95+ when fully mature.
