This is dry very elegant but also quite rich showing a mature feel maybe even a wee bit up dry heat. While this was very good it was far from my favourite today. #d'Angleterre

Le Petit Mouton Masterclass and Dinner - BBR & Chateau Mouton Rothschild: Still young and very tannic but showing great structure, delicate, finesse. Less powerful than 2010. Complexity and lots of acidic freshness. See above for sorts of notes - all present. Everything perfectly balanced. Tremendous potential and will age and age.
Still very young but anticipated score 94-96 when fully mature.

My score here is based on a decant over the course of 4 days.
Day 1 - very wound up, giving nothing. Score: 50 Day 2 - still wound up, but a hint of fruit comes through. Score: 70 Day 3 - much better, drinkable, but lacks integration and finer points of a first growth. Score: 88 Day 4 - went flat
This is absolutely not ready OR absolutely overpriced.

Been almost two years since I checked in on this and what a muted little thing this was.
Some clear scents of vanilla, oak and red fruits like cherry and plum. More juicy than elegant on the texture, and refreshing gentle notes of cassis, cherries and oak. Finish is rather short. Didn’t go much elsewhere after 4-5 hours of air. Followed up the following day throughout and still the same soft notes, red fruit and little to no tannins.
I’m not saying this is the top dud of the 2016 vintage, but every time I drink one, I’m reminded of “shoulda got ye some more Pontet/Ducru/Beychevelle/Montrose/etc”. I wouldn’t call this wine a total disappointment, yet. I just don’t see this being worth following or hoping it gets better over the following years. It’s a good wine- better than a lot for sure. I just don’t think it lives up to its vaunted brand.
I cracked open a 2016 Mouton after this experience and wow was that night and day.

Le Petit Mouton Masterclass and Dinner - BBR & Chateau Mouton Rothschild: Second time drinking during the day. Absolute baby compared to the 2009 and 2010 but showing excellent potential as it comes into maturity. Everything in a fantastic balance.
Still very young but anticipated score 94-96 when fully mature.
