Love this. There is a charming macadamia nut character to the nose with the faintest suggestion of dulce de leche sweetness. Some macaron too with bright stone fruits. Palate is beautifully textured with just the right amount of acidity. Classic white Burg. My wine of the night.

A little slower out of the blocks that the Puligny this was paired with. Initially hard to get past the salinity of this. A little struck match too but after 20 mins there is a lovely mountain stream / slate minerality to this. Some grapefruit pith emerges and with the very final sip after an hour in the glass the faintest spot of manuka honey. In the end this was right up there with the Puligny.

This opens with a charming sour / sweet kumquat nose, with some bruised plums. There is little gazpacho savouriness too. Really good stuff. Palate initially a little tight but soon opens up to reveal a beautifully balanced wine with red fruits, a little pepper and resolved tannins. With time some smoky blueberry fruit adds to the mix.

White pepper and crushed almonds complement the layered red fruit here. Some meatiness too. Palate has time ahead and although as tigth as one might expect for an '05 its light on its feet. Lovely stuff.

Really on the red fruits here on pouring; real cherry and cranberry character. Later a couple of pipette drops of grapefruit juice in the mix. The palate is a little less giving but suspect an awkward age thing rather than anything else. Compact but perfectly formed. Slightly prefer this to the '05 Ursules but not much in it.

Charming lift to this mature beaut. There are lots of tart red fruits and a little crème de groseille sweetness. Some sliced beef tomato, underbrush and polished sideboard too. Palate has good acidity and more red fruits.

Cool fruited, some macaron paper, some sliced raw liver and minerality. Later some ox cheek meatiness and contrasting florality. Really like this. Palate is rich and layered, good balance and length. My second favourite wine of the night.

Younger, smoky meaty nose. Some crème de cassis and plum. Rich, long, pure. Very good. My 3rd wine of the night.

I like this more than some at the other end of the table. There is a macaron and beef consommé nose, smoky and dark fruited. Later some Bakewell sweetness and a little peppermint after some time in the glass.

Pretty decently corked.

Redcurranty nose. Some underbrush and ground green peppercorns. Rich and pleasurable. There is little fruit cake here. Lovely stuff. Generously opened by our host replacing a corked bottle.

Two bottles of this opened. Again I'm less down on this than others. They were similar. Sweet meaty nose. Some vanilla and cinnamon notes too. In a good spot maturity wise but neither bottle was singing.

Just a spot of brett here but additive not a flaw for me. A bit of saddle leather with a few pipette drops of Rose's lime cordial. Palate is cool fruited and tannins charmingly resolved. Refreshing and pleasantly tartness to the fruits. With time some creamy raspberry notes.

NV Jacques Lassaigne Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs La Colline Inspirée

Nose is initially hard to pin down but there is a subtle freshly sliced Jonagold character, not many bubbles. There is a slight spiciness after some air. The palate is taught and quite short; a little lime zest adds to the whole. After an hour in the glass some melon notes emerge. Although I don't believe the assemblage contains any pinot blanc, it smells as though it might. Very low or even zero dosage.
