France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Young cherry and chocolate nose. Red fruit, warm "Christmas pudding" and brandy notes on palate. Juicy, pure and balanced with decent complexity. Punched above its weight and was a fair bit better than the 2019 to my taste!
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Still feels "young", or rather sharp edged and tannic. Fruit but developing tertiary flavours too. Raspberry with a touch of cigar box on the nose and some earthiness and leaves showing. Decent finish but not showing so much complexity.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Rich, strawberry and raspberry fruity nose alongside cigar. Sweet, ripe fruit on the palate. Lush and rich throughout, with spices, earth and oak showing through too. Very warm and opulent but still showing acidic balance. Nice long finish.
Beginning to drink very well now but will keep going for decades. To my palate, the 2009 is superior to the 2010 (I found the same during the Petit Mouton vertical too).
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dense, concentrated and big. Nose fruity with cassis and blackberry but fewer tertiary complexity showing versus the 2009 (overall this feels less developed and is more tannic). Needs more time but great potential, even if I prefer the 2009 right now.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Unsurprisingly, a far weaker nose compared to the 2010 tried before. Hard tannis, under ripe blackberry and stems. Developing tertiary notes which are beginning to poke through. Short finish.
The weakest wine of the vertical - even moreso than the 2013 to my palate.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Richer nose than the 2011 and overall still quite young. Fruity; cassis and raspberry with a touch of tobacco leaf. Nicely balanced and pretty complex.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Noticeably and more delicate but everything is there. Feels evolved and aged. Mature fruit of dried cherry with some nice tertiary earthiness developing.
Drink this now and it certainly punches above the reputation of the 2013 vintage! Apparently they found relative success thanks to a lack of intervention during maceration...
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dense and concentrated. Strawberry nose underpinned by some intense, blacker fruit on the palate. Great acidity and length. Still very young with lots of tannins present, although already the fruit is wonderful.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Strawberry and cream on nose. Weaker and less fruity; some under ripe strawberry with some spices. Lacks balance and is quite alcoholic and hot. This is also rather up front with a short finish.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Fruity, spicy nose. Very pure palate with sweet red and purple fruit. Some peppers, floral and wood notes present. Warm and finessed. Will be excellent. Probably just ahead of the 2020 during this tasting but I cannot wait to revisit them in 10 (and 20) years time and see how the distinctive wines developed.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Beautiful, mature wine. Huge, dense wine. Still fruity (cherry and blackberry) with lovely mature tertiary notes showing: cigar box, tobacco, earthiness and smoked wine. Nice dried fruit notes on the long finish which shows the complexity nicely.
Wonderful wine which is drinking very well now and will keep maturing.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Aged, cherry, touch of wood. Nice finish and balance. But pales in comparison to 05 - lacking complexity on every level. Still v enjoyable and drinking well now.
