During a Matter of Taste walkabout tasting, only brief impressions. Ripe but not overripe luckily, tannins present, enough fruit though to carry them. Not very complex though as so often with very dense wines.

Tasted blind in a a flight of 4 Right Bank/Merlot-based wines. The wines were double decanted 3 hours prior to tasting. My first place wine, the group ranked it second. Black red color. Primary fruit on the nose, slightly herbal, with black fruit essence and spices. Super tight and tannic, with glass staining, extracted fruit, fine grained grippy tannins and a lovely viscous texture that combines deep fruit with lots of structure to hold it together. I didn't notice the alcohol. This is very young at 18 years from vintage, and is a well made wine that should last decades.

(Château Troplong Mondot) Deep red violet color; lovely deep cherry, cassis and vanilla nose; rich, concentrated but not overly extracted cassis palate with structure and cedar notes; long finish (definitely an ager) (90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon)
