this was okay. I've bought a few aged bordeauxs that get a little bit two dimensional, flabby, uneven with traces of vinegar/tartness or lack of fruit. Still drinkable and fun, but just seemed past its prime.

20 Vintages of Troplong Mondot: This was a trainwreck of a vertical tasting. An average of meager 86.8 pts, only 6 wines with a rating of more than 90pts. Almost all wines pre 2017 and a winemaker/style change have dried out. Too much extraction and heavy oak treatment produced wines that did not age well, have no fruit and charm left. I don’t have group ratings but the sentiment in the room was similar (this was the fastest tasting ever with this group). It was a root day but that can’t explain everything. Also, the provenance or storage of the bottles was no issue (all bought En Primeur, stored perfectly since). Troplong Mondot seems to be a victim of a series of bad choices, mainly the wrong consultant. Luckily, the future looks brighter.
TN: Shy nose with ripe dark berries and crushed rocks. Not overly exciting. On the palate this shows a good ripe dark fruit attack with a touch of creaminess but the the oak notes take over. No winner either.

[Troplong Mondot Dinner at Anhelo] Tasted the 2018, 2015, 2010, and 1999.
Showing good tertiary development now, leather, slight herbaceousness and the stereotypical Bordeaux earthiness. Fruit is lacking intensity, also the least pure of the four vintages with stewed plums, blackberry and strawberries. Slight greenness on the nose, the tannins are resolved, and the wine seems to be at its peak. Should last through til 2028. A mature Bordeaux from a weaker vintage.

Last bottle was a lot better, better flavor profile, well balanced, nice and mellow. Sour cherry, lead and pencil, green bell pepper

Vertical and Lunch with Chateau Troplong Mondot - Singapore 2023: Tertiary driven - complex notes smokey tobacco, spices. Touch of stewed fruits but not so much. Good acidity and decent finish.
