Thanks so much to S1 and HRH for once again organizing a spectacular weekend in Charleston. The food, wines, friendship and southern hospitality were all outstanding! Also a special shout out to Mason for the fried shrimp and oyster feast. So much fun to hang out with all of you CTers and share special wines - looking forward to next year!!!

I really enjoyed reading MC2 Wines' Tasting Story

(again), Wouldn't it be nice if all of you could contribute to the same Tasting Story?
now where's that <beating a dead horse> emoji?

edit: Oh, and BTW, incredible lineup and weekend of festivities. I envy to an excess

Had an amazing time. It was easily the greatest event I have attended and have arranged and attended quite a few nice ones. Thank you very much to S1 and HRH for the enormous amount of work involved in cooking and planning for this event. Although we were drinking some of the best wines in the world, there was no pretentiousness at all, and I made several new friends and enjoyed the food immensely. This was my first time in Charleston and I loved the area.
Came solo and previously knew two out of the gang as they were local Ct folks who have attended a few of my events. Was welcomed with open arms, and made several new friends. Quite a diverse crowd from all over the country, and quite quickly I felt like I belonged, and enjoyed the wonderful camaraderie of the group. I am so glad I decided to come down and will definitely return in the future. Thank you also to everyone for sharing some of your most special bottles. There were so many wines on any given evening that it was so difficult to pick the WOTNs but for me, I would have to say the ones that were probably my favorites were the 06 Pignan, the 08 Grange, the 95 Chave Hermitage, the Mag of the Veuve Rose'. The 69 Burgundy was an epiphany for me also.

This was great year of trying new wines for me, and I had a list of my favorite wines of the year already. But now time to throw that list away, and rewrite it ! Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday season ! CHEERS...

So, what were everyone else's thoughts on the WOTN? I'm not surprised with the '98 Grange or the '06 Pignan. Sigh. Another Rayas convert.

I'm trying to find the time to type all the tasting notes.
I'll also post Circa food pics (someone needs to send me a lineup pic).

It's a shame no one brought anything good to drink.

Well done!

Thank you !
This was my 1st Charleston offline, and it will be firmly etched in memory for a very long time.
I appreciate the thoughtfulness of all the people in bringing such provocative and wonderful wines

special thanks to our hosts: to the chef/wine whisperer, fry-guy/sous, wine wranglers who got that 61' cork out and the embrodier/
lady of the house. huzzah!

The wines that really stood out at the time:
- the Roumier 98' for it's stone (cherry) fruit, spice box and acid lift and the 99' Clos de Tart with the black fruits classic soy notes that I treasure in a red burgundy. the trio of 60's burgs were beguiling and show that burgundy has stamina/legs to a have so much lively fruit

- Loved the cheese puffs with the 90' VC Grande Dame, 88 an 90 are some of my favorite vintages of this house. It was a very fine champagne that night.

For Fri I was looking forward to the Reds and Flannery and they matched perfectly. Standouts were the 05' Bionic and a very young, but wisely decanted 07' La Turque

Circa dinner was nicely paced but required more deliberation and time from me
- no doubt Rayas Pignan and Penfolds Grange stole the night for the reds.
- Enjoyed the Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc, a very proper Marsanne, though favor the Roussane./Marsane blends. A bit of flowers like lavender and minerally peach or waxy pears.

The blind tasting reveals were stunning, such a variety!

I would like to do this again, so I have set aside some things for a future gathering, S1 may have some insights

Cordialmente! Gene

I wanted to add our thanks for another wonderful event to S1 and HRH.
They are the consummate hosts

Great food, wine and of course great to see old friends and meet some new ones.

Lots of firsts for me this year, including the Bionic Frog, Grange and Lafitte.
All wonderful wines throughout the four days that everyone was generous to share.

Looking forward to next years event.
Scott has established a new standard for off-lines that will be tough to beat.
But I am sure he will try......
