2010 Freemark Abbey Napa Cab

Wasn't too dissappointed because it wasn't an expensive bottle but still wasn't please. Not sure if it was corked but it was bad. A bit of a funky smell, had basically no taste other than the burn of alcohol and the cork had wine stains up 3/4 of the length of it. I emailed a picture of the cork (not proof the wine was bad but didn't hurt) to Astor Wines along with my receipt and got store credit.

So far this year of approx 300 bottles logged as consumed there's been 3 corked and 1 premox, which is a fairly good ratio, although each still hurt

Corked
1999 Bellenum Collection Chambolle Musigny VV
2006 C. Donatiello Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
2004 Domaine René Engel Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir

Premox'd / DOA
1995 Domaine Potinet-Ampeau Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières

My cellar is still fairly young, but I have yet to open a corked bottle.
I am sure my luck will change over time.

Have had a corked bottle at a restaurant a few times, but at least it was not my loss to replace.

- Bummer, but it was replaced by the winery. Cannot speak highly enough of this operation. Class acts all around.

Two weeks ago, a 2013 Chateau Musar Jeune Rosé, which was a real bummer since I've never had a Lebanese wine before and was excited to try this one, then a 2012 Liquid Farm Golden Slope that was bit ox'd.

Did you reach out to John about this? I might guess he would send you a replacement if available (or at least another vintage).

I did not. I was thinking about it, but feel somewhat sheepish as it was a Beserker Day 2014 fecking amazing deal. Clearly some of the best Syrahs and at just $25.....

What would u do?

I wrote a tasting note once of a corked Cabot and John reached out to me and offered a new bottle. Mine was a BD purchase as well.

Resurrecting this thread.

After a few years of avoiding any type of corked bottle, we've had TWO in as many weeks.

One was a 2005 Clos Du Val Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District, and the other a 2011 Pine Ridge Tessitura (red blend).

The former was HUGE wet cardboard. Nasty. You could smell it from six-feet away. Totally disappointed, as this bottle was purchased at the winery.

The Pine Ridge was less in-your-face, but I still couldn't take more than 1/3 of a glass before I had to deep-six it.

For the record, both wineries stepped up. Clos Du Val even pulled from their library the same 2005 vintage. Pine Ridge just let me know today that they're shipping a replacement on Monday.

Kudos to the wineries that try to make things right.

Most recent was a 2008 Fevre Chablis Bougros Cotes de Bougerots. It was admittedly oxidized and not corked. But I so rarely get to drink GC burgs, that this was a disappointment nonetheless.

Thankfully, a 2011 Drouhin Puligny 1er was on hand and drinking quite well. So I got over it.

2013 Littorai Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

Initially, flavors were muted, lacked vibrancy, and my bloodhound-nosed GF was suspicious. Revisiting the opened bottle a few hours later confirmed the diagnosis. She was right (shhhhhh).

Treatment: a 2010 Rhys Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard and it was very good, albeit a 'heavier' brutish wine.

That sucks. Nothing worse than a great wine ruined.

Sounds like your GF=TW. Since your wife will always be right, and you (if you disagree) will always be wrong, at least in your case she will in fact be right. This works. (At least is has for me for more than 36 years so far.)

Bad as in corked? Bad as in cooked?

Inquiring minds want to know.
