ya, I know Drycab. Who is everyone else??!

Musedir's post above with the open and close image tags without an actual image? That is me.

I do show in some pics. Usually as a back of head or unsightly waist. This by design.

Off to dinner and the next round of stellar sipping.

After this weekend I am going to be forced to reevaluate my entire notion of wines.

Terribly quiet in Charleston.

One would think they were having dinner.

Can you say, "under the table"?

Dinner is done and the reprobates have scattered to the four winds.

Or their beds. One of those.

Spectacular evening. Wines only outshone by the company. Too tired to give details this moment, though I suspect the resident scribes and historians will be recounting the tale very soon.

On behalf of we who benefitted, our mutual heartfelt thanks to S1 and Mrs. S1 for their efforts and hospitality. Truly, to quote James Buffett, "It was a pleasure and a helluvan evening."

I really REALLY hope you all have bad bad hangovers.

That Pichon Baron 1990 you have lined up should be awesome.

You are a seer, Paul.

My wine of the event.
For that matter, my WOTYear.

Pichon Baron is an awesome wine and 1990 is one of the best Bordeaux vintages.

The 2 CdPs gave the PB quite a run for its money and the Montelena didn't exactly suck. Mindmuse also threw in a Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet. There was also surprise Rasa Creative Impulse. Food pairings were dynamite. Thanks to all who played. Be safe on the roadways.

Up... Drinking coffee... Thinking about 1990 Pichon... among others. Yes, we were bad, very bad... But we were very, very good!

Last night was the perfect grand finale to what can only be described as a 2 day (3 for some) wine and food extravaganza with an extraordinary set of people and hosted in one of the best cities in the US. Much thanks to S1 and his wife for pulling it all together.

The food, wine and company was of the highest caliber. I am actually functional before 10:00am. After our party broke up, I made a bad attempt at walking home. I got turned around several times after meeting some very nice people out at that hour. I ended up right above the Inn on King Street. At that point I was through trying to navigate my way back, but not ready to call it an evening, so I called up our reliable driver Larry, who picked me up. Larry and I drove around picked up the drunk and stupid college age kids and tourists through most of the night. Eventually we made it to a bar, outside of town, after a failed pick up of a large group, way out in the old plantations. You would think they would have had the courtesy to cancel the car service, but alas...no. Must have been Yankees. So we watched highlights from the days football, while enjoying a couple of cold rum and cokes. I still was back at the hotel before 1:30am. Today, I take a short 5 hour drive up into the appalachians for a night spent at the home of a childhood friend. Tomorrow will be the horrible day trying to drive 15 hours just to get back home.

The Pichon-Baron was very good, but the wine was far from being fully mature. This Bordeaux could easily cellar another 15 years and still blow away many other terrific wines. I took some good pictures, but will have to post after I get back home. My wines of the event and year so far, were the '90 d'Yquem and the '93 Tokaji Essencia. The Essencia was every bit as impressive as I could imagine. I was also happy that our 22 year old champagnes were not corked, flawed in any way, but well singing and showing off what a properly aged champagne can taste like. The bubbles were fantastic. No if I can only have the patience to keep the other vintages under wraps. All of the wines were of excellent quality all the way up to the upper echelons of Classic. When I do get around to notes and scoring, there will be many 95+ wines. Thanks to all for sharing your treasures. I don't think I have ever met such a great and hospitable bunch of fellow winos, ever. Thank's to Scott for setting this event in motion and to Scott and Pamela for being such hard working and gracious hosts.

for those of you who wagered, I hope you took Old Doug's advice on the over/under. My count is 88 bottles (including the ones from the Burgundy Thursday dinner). I'm sure I missed a few though.

oops--make that 89. I just caught one I had forgotten

We just arrived home and talked about the weekend the entire 3.5 hour trip. It was a fantastic time and we really appreciated everyone's sharing of wine and knowledge. We can't wait to do it again.
