mt p,
Clos St Jean CdP Vv at about 40 bones
Just don't think about their Deus Ex Machina or La Combe des Foux ($)

also look at Ch. Guiraud, Ch La Gardine, Janasse CdP (not Vv or Chaupin) and consider some of the top Cote du Rhones (Janasse Terre d'Argile is killer) or Gigondas.

I was able to painfully make it back to NY around 2:00am last night after visiting an old middle school/high school friend near Asheville, NC. I was literally about 5 miles from my exit on the NY State thruway, when A very large buck jumped over the center dividing cement and literally crashed into my car. The long gone deer took the worst, but his head took my right mirror complex off and his feet or knees left a long scratch down the side of my car from the front wheel to the rear bumper. I was lucky as a large truck was being hooked up about a mile down where he too down a deer in the grill, which destroyed the front end of his car. Glad to be home and very happy to have numerous great memories from Charleston and its not just the awesome wines, great food and fun people, but I was able to see why Southern living is such a pleasant way to do things.

I have to say that Scott's Shrimp and Grits, were so creamy and top notch. The other things food wise that stood out were the groceries take on Swordfish and the dessert at Circa 1886, which was bread pudding with apples, rolled like a sushi roll and sliced accordingly, then deep fried in butter, with the best sauces and cheddar cheese Ice cream. The wines were all in the excellent to classic category. My big surprises were how much I loved all the white wines from the Champers, White Burgundy(thanks Brad), SQN, Maison Bleue, White Bdx, the dessert wines all were top notch. I think every bottle of the white blew me away. The red's, as I expected were all wonderful, but I have known for a while that I have a mad love for great red wines. I do know realize that I must gather more white wines and replenish some of the desserts I have recently pulled for drinking.

Pretty close to what I had down, but I know the Donnhoff was an '03 Auslese, because I brought it, and you missed the 5 Puttonyos tokaji from 2001 that was in the Saturday afternoon wrap up. My livers hurts, but my tasting memory has risen in a huge way.

Holy crap! Really glad to hear that you are okay. Those deer-car interactions are epidemic between Kansas City & Topeka, and sometimes it's the drivers who are the fatalities as well as the deer.

Really sorry to hear about the state of your car, but that can get fixed. You hear how often the deer roll into the windshield…

I had this happen to me a few years ago. Had to replace a fender and a windshield. Scary too. Glad you are okay and that you didn't have to call Larry to take you the last five miles.

You, sir, are a hoot, and I enjoyed you!

I really wanted to do a great narrative accompanied with photos and the classic ransom note comprised of cut-out letters, but alas! 'twas not to be.

Mindmuse, I suspect that you will want your bags and glassware back at some point. So just leave several cases of Chateau Margeaux ....

Chris, so sorry to hear about deer incident; it must have been quite startling when it occurred. I'm glad you are fine and enjoyed conversing with you at both dinners.

This happened at about 1:30am and it was a literal Stag's Leap into my car. If it had been a moment sooner, I don't know if I would be here as I was going full highway speed and it was a 5 point buck.
On happier topics, I thought of some more wine that wasn't on the list. Doug brought 3 bottles of 1989 Gruaud-Larose. It was the mystery decanter wine on Saturday afternoon. Has anybody made an event so I can at least remove the wines out of inventory, though I to don't think I will put much in the ways of tasting notes. Last weekend was something I will always remember and cherish.

Gruaud Larose is in the Fri afternoon list. Doug can tell us if he decanted more than two, but I don't think so.

Hey folks, way over 90 bottles of wine opened, and as far as I am aware,

Total corked bottles = Zero

You should have mentioned it. I would have taken the bottle back. I must have been okay with my glass.

just a little--still very drinkable. There were no drops remaining at our 2 tables. Brad, HRH and I were the only ones who picked it up I think (maybe Les too). Nobody at Jack's table noticed. I'm particularly sensitive to it.

You were on the other half of the room and probably had a different bottle than our table (or Dave's). Mine was surely sound.
Still, one percent, especially with a lot of old bottles and a lot of Old World bottles, and that one drinkable, was good fortune.

Good point, I don't know of a time where you have over 60 bottles with some age and no corking issues. We were very lucky and I hope this is a future trend. Many wineries are looking at the issue and bumping up the quality of their cork over the heavy glass. I wouldn't mind the screw top, though I do prefer the 2" cork.
