Block Nine Pinot Noir isn't terrible for about $11.

I still emphatically stand behind my recommendation for 2015 Heinz Eifel Spatlese. The Kabinett is around the same price too - approximately $12, give or take a dollar.

Interesting. Was just reading about a label called Nine Hats, which is WA. Block Nine is in a promising price range for me. Not yet available locally, but will keep an eye out and put on watch list.

Frugal Cheers!

I just drank a 2014 Chateau Bois Redon, around $10 at Total Wine. Its about the best $10 Bordeaux Superieur I've had in a few years.

2014 Valley vineyards "The Royal" Chennin blanc from South Africa surprisingly drinkable for about $8. I see the 15 vintage is $6.68 at Wine Library.

NV Marietta Cellars Old Vine Red Lot Number 62. At $10 bucks it's a pretty good QPR.

2014 Seaside Cellars Marlborough PN (New Zealand) - this officially rang the death knell for domestic Pinot Noir. If the Kiwis can do PN this good, and keep it UNDER $10 even after shipping it halfway around the planet, why would I want to pay 4 times as much for stemmy over-oaked plonk?

2014 Pip Chardonnay Sonoma Coast. Really well done stuff with very light oak treatment and great purity of fruit.

I'll have to see if I can find any here in the Left Coast. Sounds great.

Edit: just checked w-s and, no, it's all East Coast distribution. I see some under $10 in NYC, though. I wish I could try it before paying shipping, etc. I suppose it's no great loss if I don't like it.

2011 Alderbrook Russian River Valley Pinot ($10). Very typical, rich, fruit-punchy RRV pinot. Tasty but not overly complex juice. But really nice for the price point.

2015 Cameron Hughes Pinot Noir Lot 539, Oregon

Bought at Costco for about $9. Drinks a bit above that level. I am monitoring the Cam selection at Costco, as I am uncertain how much of a continued variety they will offer. The Costco I frequent has always seemed to have 8 or more Cam selections. But wondered if that might change with the ownership change.

Do remember a Cam Rose' I bought a few years back at Costco.

My experience has been that Cam is consistently good.

Frugal Cheers!

A few good recent sub-$15 bottles:

2014 Christophe Buisson Bourgogne-Aligoté

2015 Domaine Giacometti Sciacarello Vin de France Rouge “Sempre ****entu” (Corsican red)

Picked up both of these for $10/btl, and am definitely pleased with the purchase.

Huh, I guess CT auto corrects that wine name as vulgar. That's kind of upsetting, actually.

It would be "contentu" but with a u in place of the o. It's -- I think -- corsican for "content" which is the french word for happy (corsican being a mix of french and italian, I'd imagine).

A few recently, all decent but not spectacular. Nor do they have to be anything but decent, since they exceed the <$15.

Santa Carolina Carmenere' Reserva 2014, <$10 (local wine store)
Amancay Torrontés Reserva La Rioja 2014, <$5 (Trader Joe's)
Kirkland Signature Chardonnay Sonoma County, 2015 (Costco, <$10)
Mezzadro Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, 2015, <$10 (local wine store)

For Costco, the Kirkland Chard and their Pinot Grigio Friuli are repeaters for summer daily drinkers.

Cheers!

Nice crisp dry summer sparkler from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in France.
Combination of Chardonnay (50%), Chenin Blanc (40%) and Pinot Noir (10%) grapes. Made by a wine maker originally from Champagne.

Great find and value and under $15.
NV Domaine Collin Crémant de Limoux Brut

They have a Rose as well, that is also very good.

Grab some if you can find it.

Not available in my area. Sigh. Any other sparkling from that region at similar pricing that you'd suggest?

Pinot,

Try this search - it lists the cremants by number of bottles in cellars

Just look for the better average CT scores and see if they have it in your area.
Cremants tend to be more reasonable in price, so you should be able to find some nice wines for a good price.

A number that average over 89 points and are under $20.

'09 Ninot Mercurey 1er Cru "Les Crêts". $15 at a recent auction.

Pretty nice Burg. Apple skin and sour cherry on the nose. Clear rims. Nice silky texture with good acidity. A little hollow in the mid palate with a fairly short finish. But nice stuff overall.

I don't know where you are in So Cal but Domaine LA has the rose for $15.99, I might have to pick up a bottle or two to try.
