Status: offline 		My bottle count more than doubled this year since I decided to start acquiring Bordeaux at Total Wine.
The new 120 bottle rack was filled as soon as I installed it.
Holding steady below 150 for the time being.

I've started cutting pieces for a second rack to hold 105 bottles.
This time it will be fully enclosed in glass, with my new design temperature control.
I'm planning to keep it upstairs if Mary will allow it.

In order to properly test the cooling system I'll need to add another hundred bottles to my collection.
Wondering if I can write the wine off as a business expense since the rack is a prototype for my new (so far only imagined) product line.

Status: offline 		We have some wines that we bought just a couple of years ago that we have outgrown, thinks like Shatter and D66. I took a bottle of each to a friend recently who loves Dave's wines. I know they would just sit in our cellar otherwise so I would rather see him enjoy them. We have some Linne Calodo sitting around that I need to move. Just too big and ripe for us now.

I am hoping I can fight off the bad influences of certain people here and not get more into burgundy than I would like to. OR Pinot is so much more affordable.

In similar fashion, I hit another inevitable milestone today: 2500 bottles consumed. My honor was a 2010 Huet Sec Le Mont.

Status: offline 		I can readily agree with the "700-900 bottle count sweet spot". We've been at the 700 level for about a year, and current drinking habits put our yearly consumption between 140-150 bottles. Buying 12-18 bottles a month keeps things level and having continually bought wine over the past 10 years gives us the ability to see wines evolve into and through their drinking windows. While we do have a few dozen "showcase" bottles tucked away for safe keeping, we've always felt wine was something to share and enjoy. With us buying '11, '12 and '13s right now, it's nice to know we have plenty '05, '06, and '07s to open and enjoy.

Status: offline 		Just passed 3000 purchased, am a bit short of 2000 consumed (does that mean gulped, guzzled or imbibed?), and always skirting 1000 in the cellars. Funny how these numbers suggest a miscreant lifestyle to some and a slacker, hurry the feck up to others. Ah, these moments of our lives.

Status: offline 		Last year I hit the 1000 mark and I told myself in 2015 I would consume more than I purchase. Now I am up another 200 wines and have wine in my garage again. . I haven't even bought the 2010 Brunellos I want to put away!

Status: offline 		Pre-CT I was steady in the 144-160 bottle range. Since signing up I have shown steady growth to the 350-375 range. At my current pace I will have a 500 bottle cellar in 2017. That feels right, although 150 and 200 and 250 and 300 and 350 all felt right too.

Status: offline 		We're cellar count twins, you maybe progressing a little faster than me. 400 bottles does look like a lot. I don't have anxiety about needing more, but they still just keep coming!

Status: offline 		Ahhh....hankj and locke... I surged ahead of you with about 250 deliveries this year. and I am pushing 600. :otera;;u birstomg at tje seams and with no place to store some wines that should be stored better. Sooo....I am deep in Moratorim.

So I have a new motto!

"Drinking my way back into cellar balance!" ---- or should it be "cellar sanity!"

Status: offline 		I'm over 900 and don't want to bust that next layer. I need to start pulling Botdeaux's petit Chateau and stuff from 2004, and any 2001 and most of 2003.

Need to viciously attack that WA state rack as a good chunk of Bordeaux has been migrating there and to the Rhone racking. Italy is fending for itself and hasn't been doing well. The Rhine, WA and Itslky have had multiple bottles moved to the "safe to drink racking," which is getting filled with white that aren't Riesling and a Spanish base.

I have been looking at the home page wrong and didn't realize the "in my cellar" count didn't include the "pending delivery" because when you click on the "in my cellar" link it shows both the pending and in house bottles. So I am staring at the 1400 milestone in a mere 5 more bottles...

I thought I was close to my target of 1200.

Status: offline 		My cellar capacity is around 750 and the current count is just north of 720. What I find interesting is the annual consumption numbers I find when I look at "Consumed Bottles" then summarized by "Time". This breaks out consumption yearly/quarterly/monthly. I've been on CT for 10 years and the first 5 years I consumed an average 100 bottles a year, and the last five years its increased to 150 bottles a year. I can only assume I'm thirstier? more thirsty? (grammer experts please), and my consumption has matched my purchasing habits, as my bottle count has leveled off.

The next milestone im working on is 350, then 325.

Status: offline 		We have not been below 1,000 bottles since 2005. Hovering around 1,500 but keeping the pipeline in shape as we drink a good number of mature wines with long drinking windows along with daily drinkers and other wines that do not benefit from a longer time in the cellar.

I think an individuals preferred cellar size is dictated in large part by the drinking windows of the wines they cellar and enjoy (drink a lot of Beaujolais Nouveau - small cellar, a lot of Bordeaux, Barolo etc. large cellar) Add in a person's age, yearly consumption and a few other things and we could estimate the perfect cellar size. Sounds like a topic for another thread!
