My bottle count is down this year from utterly insane to merely decidedly deranged. Progress!

Hovering too close to the 150-bottle milestone....but only 2 bottles incoming. End of October.

Broke through the 700 bottle count earlier this year, and with the recent Napa trip and Fall allocations, heading towards 800.

It is good that I have room for 1,200 bottles in total.

Not sure what I will do in a few years when those last spots are gone....

My cellar is down below 900 and because I suck at CT and have not done inventory in over 18 months, I am probably below 850. I am continuing to reduce as I would like to get down below 800 by the end of next year.

Wine in My Cellar 1,040
Wine Pending Delivery 118
Wine Consumed 2,121
Wine Purchased 3,279

so I guess this confirms that a potential chunk of my golden years' assets are in line 4 and my lesson learned is reflected in lines 1 & 2... my only consolation is to be found in line 3!

I found that 500 was a bit of glass ceiling for about two years, which is amazing now that I think about it that I was able to stave off breaking the barrier. But then last fall i finally crept over the 500 bottle mark and now i'm about to bust 600. Ug, and I have no room...i think.

I bought some racks to help expand the storage situation, and I need to get them built before the boxes start showing up. What I'm dreading though is that I need to rearrange the entire cellar and pull out every bottle and do an audit. Sounds awful but also sounds fun.

We are both 73 and have 2,700+ bottles cellared and pending. With annual consumption ~300 btl/yr, it is time to hit the brakes. No more purchases this year and we will limit next year purchases to 4 cases.

You know Jim, NJ isn't that far of a drive from Vermont. I'm sure my wife & I could help you with your situation.

A few years ago I had the 500 bottle ceiling, but then pushed this up to 700. Been holding off recently and have dipped to about 660, and would like to get back to the 600 range.

Brakes seem like a good idea in your case.
Keep us updated as to how successful your 4 case "diet" works out, and other learnings from attempting to drink down your cellar.

It's a decision I can postpone for awhile longer, but I know it's looming out there in the future.

For me the milestone is that I built the daily drinker rack to expand my cellar (it is in the basement, but actually outside of my cellar in the first half of the basement, which is storage for things like Christmas decorations. HRH, who rarely ventures into the basement, has not seen it yet).

Amazingly, I have somehow bought more than I have consumed - again - this year. So I rest - if fitfully - in the Moratorium.

I am at about 750 now (I need to update CT or post to the 'I suck at CT' thread) and really need to either cut back (so says Dr C) or I need to build more racking (when she is on vacation with her mom over thanksgiving)(again). And I should stop using parenthesis so much.

Last year I purchased well over twice what SH and I (and friends) consumed. This year I was being very (somewhat) selective to try to open up storage positions and my purchases are just about equal to our consumption. Good reduction on purchases but not nearly good enough!

Our cellar sort of crept up slowly, and once it grew beyond our ~48 bottle wine rack we bought a 177-bottle fridge, because why not? We were getting some nice-ish bottles by then so we figured, hey we have ~75 bottles, at the rate we're going it'll take us forever to fill this thing! Well, I think you can see about when we bought the fridge... At 200+ bottles we had filled the fridge and our old wine rack so we thought we should cool it and try and keep it at or below our capacity to rack... Well then we went to Sonoma/Napa/Paso on vacation and when we got home had to move two cases of our long-term agers to a friend's cellar, so we're on a bit of a moratorium until November only complicated by a couple of wine clubs releasing in September.

One of the really nice things about Cellar Tracker, is it helps you understand your problem with supporting data.

I suggest you quit calling it a problem, and start construction on your cellar.

Yeah I think it's graduated from problem to passion, however we're in a 1br apartment until we can save up a down payment in Seattle's crazy housing market, but rest assured, I have an eye on basements when I troll Redfin!

So rent a storage locker. You keep the stuff you want to age in the locker, and shift what you should be drinking periodically to the refrigerator.
This keeps you from drinking what should be aging on a whim, and gets you all set up for the eventual new place with a basement cellar.

Seattle has some excellent offsite storage options.

The other thing CT is good for, is supportive enablers.

Oh yeah cellar size. Mine was like this
2001-2005 - 3
2005-2014 - 50
2014- ? 458

So the only way to deal with the massive overage was offsite. :)

All I know is that we had about 25 bottles in 2011 when we joined CT and now we are working hard to keep it around 500 bottles (currently 526). CT enablers, Nah...

We have an interior bathroom closet where we keep some of our non-aging celler defenders. It stays pretty cool plus we know who snoops because if they use the guest bath and open the door they can't help but make a comment about the wine in the closet...

That prompted me to look back as well. Joined in mid-2009 with 330 bottles... hmmm.

Looks like we had 65 bottles when we joined in late 2009... Growth has been slow and fairly disciplined, and we're now edging up towards double that. I do find that, having offsite available for about the last year, it's more tempting to buy bottles to stash away, so that has accelerated things just a little.

I try to keep the cellar count below 500, pending does go up a bit to replenish consumed and balance what I like to drink now.

After receiving a few cases of daily drinkers I passed the 1,000 bottles for the first time (1020 actually). I cannot believe how fast it accumulated... Worst, I cannot believe I feel no remorse...
