11/11/2023 - pavel_p Does not like this wine: 87 pointsSame bottle as Melvin. I hated this wine. It did not help that it was served next to the Ramonet Chassagne which was the antithesis of this style here. Some earth with dark fruit on the nose, awkward medicinal notes. Very extracted feel on the jammy mid palate. Some harsh tannins lurcking behind the fruit. The alcohol (15.5% as per label) did not come through that obviously, but I would expect this wine to start picking up oxidative notes in a couple years. |

5/2/2015 - pavel_p Does not like this wine: 87 pointsA fairly pale yellow. A nice but subtle nose with fine white fruit and a touch of nuts. Disappointing on the slightly fizzy palate which lacks aromatics and any sort of complexity. Short finish. Nothing really wrong here but reminds me why I used to not like whites when I started getting a bit more seriously into wine many years ago. |

2/11/2012 - pavel_p wrote: 90 pointsPnP. Dark garnet to the rim, nose of black fruit, oak and spices, big / full bodied palate, the oak is not bothering here as there is just so much dark, primary fruit, medium tannins and medium finish. Would never recognize this as Bordeaux blind, and do not enjoy this style of wine much. But I think this could turn out nicely with 3-4 years more bottle age, when some of the primary fruit is shed, as there is sufficient structure. Let's wait and see |

11/23/2013 - pavel_p wrote: 92 pointsWas worried after the first oxidized bottle that these might all be way past, and hence eager to open the second. A pale lemon yellow. Hard to describe nose with iodine and perhaps minerals. On the palate a clean and crisp explosion of acidity with lemon and grapefruit. Dry with no sweetness whatsoever but still a good body of fruit. Unlike some of those heavily oaked Chrdonnays which are often tired and lack freshness after 5 or 6 years in bottle, this is still a fantastic Chablis at age 25! |

The last glass in the open bottle was even drinkable the day after (after a night in the fridge). One more to go, and then I will try the 1990 which should be even better. |

7/31/2014 - pavel_p Likes this wine: NRConsistent note - once again I am amazed how fresh and crisp a mid-priced Chablis can taste, smell and look (still a fairly pale to medium yellow in the glass) at age 24. Great wine, unfortunately only one bottle left |

3/2/2014 - pavel_p wrote: 92 pointsOpened at home with a sweet curry chicken rice. The expected good match as the wine with it's crisp minerality and freshness can stand up to the flavors of the meal. Medium golden yellow. Takes only a few minutes to open up. After the great 88 anothe Pic that impresses with precision, crisp freshness, minerals and some sulphut at age 24. As the evening passes on the wine becomes rounder with some nutty flavors. Excellent. |

5/20/2017 - pavel_p Likes this wine: NROpened after another oxidized 02 Marc Colin Chassagne went down the drain. Beautiful wine and unbelievably fresh and young for a 30 year old 1er Cru Chablis - a real shame that these days we have to worry about premox for every single bottle of white Burgundy produced in the 2000s... |

10/28/2016 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 93 pointsAfter two recent oxidized / flawed bottles of 2002 white Burgundy I approached this bottle with some concerns even though the "normal" Albert Pic 1er from 1988 and 1990 vintages I had had some two years ago had been brilliant. |

6/13/2020 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 91 pointsFirst bottle from an OWC of 6, and first time drinking an Alion. Pnp after a 2001 Ciacci BdM Riserva. Surprised how sweet this is compared to the Brunello. Round and soft, this has good acidity to balance the sweet dark fruit, not flabby or overripe. Medium (-) tannins which further soften with more air, are providing some structure but this strikes me as a fairly simple, fruit forward wine to be enjoyed over the next 5 years or so, but no point in putting aside for the long run. I guess that’s where Valbuena and Unico come into play. |

4/20/2023 - pavel_p wrote: 86 pointsNever heard of this estate but got as part of a mixed lot, and 95 is supposed to be every bit as good as 94 for Rioja. And I have had stunning 94s. Not this one unfortunately. Label looks very much like Marques de Caceres in brown color - same font, same font size and similar layout? Anyway, pnp. Transparent garnet with a touch of browning towards a wide clear rim. Some dill on the nose. On the palate this a fairy light bodied wine without much concentration or complexity, some leather notes but still hanging in there, short finish. Correct wine but no more despite the stellar vintage. Drink up should you have this. |

7/11/2018 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 91 pointsAt restaurant in Athens. Had the 2011 and 2012 next to each other. Preferred the 2011 as the nose was more interesting and complex with some animal notes joining the wood spices and dark fruit. On the palate both wines showed a remarkable balance, with the dark fruit having in both cases integrated the oak nicely (which is impressive given this is apparently 200% new oak). In both cases however the palate is a bit foursquare and cannot entirely measure up to the very pretty nose. Integrated tannins. Short to medium length. Nice wines! |
