From 75cl screwcap, decanted 1 hour. Lighter-bodied and thinner in texture than I hoped (based on my CT TN from 22.12.2023), this is nonetheless an outstanding PN on the level of a lieu-dit bottling from a fine CdNuits producer. The scent, seriously fresh and lifted, is just terrific at this stage of maturity; the palate is basically as recorded here on 25.06.2023, just seeming a bit more attenuated—or perhaps tired? I seem to prefer my NZ PNs quite a bit younger than most Burgundy, good Cali PN or German Spätburgunder, indeed about 3–4 years after the vintage often seems to work for me. 90P

A rare chance to try a benchmark wine before release, and unsurprisingly, the 2023 Felton Road Pinot is a winner! Obviously bright and youthful, but the structure of the wine is all class, emphasising fruit tannins, with a classic “house style” balance between generous fruit and expertly-judged oak. The 2023 strikes me as more tannic than the 2022 vintage, with a savoury note that suggests this will age beautifully. Intense and thick, but also with the classic FR lightness. Red cherry, subtle oak, earth and fruit. A very fine wine. Clearly wants some age, as it is very tannic, and will be fascinating to follow! 92++

PNP. Good out of the bottle but better with 30-45 minutes of air. Color starting to show some age. Nice fruit and secondaries on the nose. Ripe red fruit and a balanced finish. Strong showing. A-

Blind Pinot Noir Tasting and Lunch (San Francisco): Light ruby. Mellow, complex nose. Medium- weight. Supple, fluid, wonderful fruit/soil balance, bright orange peel acidity, and moderate remaining tannins. Also delicious-I love the verve and harmony. Should continue at this outstanding level for another decade.

Blind Pinot Noir Tasting and Lunch (San Francisco): Ruby. Harsher stem dominant aromas with rose florality and berry as well. Medium body. Stems and tannins dominate, but there is a lot of pretty, dark cherry trying to edge its way in. Moderately tannic, chocolatey finish. Sharper with less pleasing harmony and balance than the younger Cornish Point, and I wonder if it will catch up with more aging.

Blind Pinot Noir Tasting and Lunch (San Francisco): Light ruby. Fragrant green tones and mixed berry. Medium+ weight. Lovely density of ripe berry, citrus, and soil with excellent acidity and fine tannins. Supple, balanced, excellent penetration, and yet still holding something in reserve. I liked this.

First go w the Felton Road B2 in this vintage (v20, 14% ABV) - appears slightly close-woven at first pour, clearly citric & quite rich in alcohol, opening up throughout bottle to citrus heaven w a tropical touch & go attitude. Straw-yellow, crystal-clear in appearance. Nose w deep scents of nectarine, lemon & grapefruit, ripe lime emerging w further air, marzipan & butter w a touch of wood. Mineral-driven, taut, m+-palate, peach & apricot adding to the flavour profile, barrel spice & lime-drenched, oily acidity. Hold for now or decant.

An absolutely stunning wine. Nicely concentrated. Beautiful colour. Stunning dark berries. Blue berries. Earthy edge to it as well. Bit of spice and plush in the mouth A long finish. Will go for years yet. Enjoy it or hold. An extremely classy Felton Road.

Well made and fresh in a clean, citrusy style. Some weight and body now. Will wait five years and see if more complexity evolves.

Excellent work by Felton on this. When people mention the need for a 3hr decant, I don’t disagree.

The nose is tight and wound with potent ripe strawberry, spice box and Szechuan pepper. The palate is layered, complex, with grippy tannin.

I really messed up drinking it this young, drank this one for ‘science’. Really could go easily another 15-25yrs in 75cl. Magnums could be near timeless.

Second wine from Felton - really enjoyed bannockburn prev - the Calvert is much heavier in comparison - medium to full body, strong fruits, spice and herbs/floral. I can taste strawberry and theres a very distinct taste that I have never tasted in other wines before, maybe pomegranate? Tannins is present but not overpowering. Overall a good wine that will likely taste much better in a couple more years (with resolved tannins).

Drinking very well. Pop n pour following a Guigal CdR and with food. Nice dark fruit, strength in the middle and a lingering aftertaste. Two French friends were very impressed and we had a long burgundy based conversation. There is enough tannnic feel that it could go another few years we agreed, especially as that dark fruit never wavered. Delicious with food

Stunning pinot! Complex, fine tannins, notes of raspberry, forest floor, rose petals. Pnp, no decanting opened up in glass during 90 minute dinner (delicious with duck confit). Hoping I can get more!!

{screwcap, 14%} Partly aged, spectacular nose of pastrami and other deli meat. An undercurrent of composting red fruit. Really great stuff. Palate is very fine too, medium/full in weight, still with medium powdery tannin, medium acid, medium/long finish. Just a great pinot by any standard. No rush to drink either, it seems. Tasted at domaine
As previous commenter said — Pineapple, lemon zest and a sharp component. All very tight and acidic, with notes of unripe green apples all mellowed out by a very light touch malo. It's a stylistically very different chardonnay than anything on my tasting trip so far. I like it a lot. It's like a cold vintage chablis.
I think this will last a decent amount of time.

Herby and light petrol smell.
Green unripe apples, and a rather short finish. The sweetness is somewhat present despite being dry.

Can't imagine it'll develop too far away from current state.

An absolutely superb wine. Still a good few years left in the bottle. A big densely concentrated Pinot Noir. Deep dark fruits. A stunning purple black colour in the glass. A very mouth filling wine, chocolate and earthy leather flavour's. The best Felton Road Bannockburn I have tasted. If you have a few left in the cellar, try n leave them another 4 or 5 years. You will not regret doing so. But you can enjoy this beauty like we did tonight.

Not sure to be honest, however significantly better after a couple of hours. Initially I thought it was just over the hill. Not as complex as I was expecting. Marginalised bottle ? Too young ? Too old ? (I struggled with this bottle to assess)
