2016 Perinet Garnacha Priorat Mas Vell

5/2/2024 - MJP Hou TX Likes this wine: NR

A friend shared this over dinner. Distinctly priorat with minerality and the floral shop of garnacha.

A bit of heat at PNP and a good amount of sediment to midigate.

I would hold for further development.

Lots of dark fruit on the nose. Full-bodied, nice balance of acidity and tannins. Lingering finish with notes of licorice. Had at BTG wine bar in Salt Lake.

This was my last bottle of my purchase and still can't get past the 16% abv which results in an unbalanced wine.

Incredible smell! BlackBerry, lavender, vanille
Taste: ceder, tannines, yeast, liquorice, full, long taste, walnut, pepper, tea, eucalyptus, raspberries, pure cacao, lemon, mushroom. With olives the taste gets softer

Very with salty meat, duck, Serrano and olives.

abv at 16%. The alcohol level makes this one unbalanced. Cali Zin like, big and bold with red and black fruit, bramble, licorice, raspberry.

Nice, tightly wound structure, with somewhat austere fruit. Plenty of juiciness keeps it interesting.

This, a 4 grape blend of 35% Syrah, 25% Garnatxa, 20% Carinyena, 20% Merlot. Aged 14 mo in 45% French Oak and 55% SS. A boozy 16% abv which to me resulted in an unbalanced wine. Paired well with chili con carne.

Floral and slightly peppery with fresh blackberry and dried herbs. Silky palate with some minerality and a fruity finish.

Dark reddish-purple in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe dark fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & cassis with some earthy/dusty notes, tar, leather, spices & a hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium-deep bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe dark fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, herbs & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but should develop further with additional aging. An indicative blend of Garnacha, Carignan, Merlot and Syrah. Very good QPR when found at discount.

Really enjoyed it. Refined Priorat that's very well balanced so much so that you can't taste the 16% alcohol. Taste of black fruit and leather moderated by vanilla. Full body balanced with medium tannins.

Vanilla, smoke, cedar, ripe red cherries and ripe red raspberries on the nose. The secondary aromas really overpower the primary ones. Guessing a lot of new French oak influnece here. The palate adds ripe dark plums and coffe grounds and overall tastes more primary. Almost tart. Call it the "revenge of the red fruits". Intensity of both flavors and aromas are medium +. I enjoy drinking this because of how different the nose and palate are. It drinks like it tells a story, if that makes any sense.

Full body with medium + acid and big medium + tannin. Drinking very well right now if you're okay with the level of oak. If not, hold 2-4 more years and hope that it mellows out. Good pairing with braised beef.

An outstanding Priorat. Big fruit, smooth palate. At least 5-7 years left, but drinking great with an hour of air now.

Had a glass as part of a grand-level wine pairing at Roux 30A restaurant near Destin, Florida. Paired somewhat bizarrely with a sea scallop over a bed of essentially cole slaw. Not a good pairing. The wine itself was fine but forgettable. Might have improved with time, because it was a pop n pour.

Plums on the nose, spice, anise. Nice acidity to counteract the grippy tannins; dense, with lots of plums and blackberries on the palate. Fruity but not jammy, with minor herbal notes and forest floor and a medium long ending with spice.

A very good Priorat that delivers. Highly enjoyable and will improve with age.
