2019 Riise Wine Peace

Paso Robles Syrah Blend, Syrah more

5/12/2024 - Decanting Queen Likes this wine: 93 points

Was excited to try one of these and not disapointed, but also think it is way too soon. My score is for now. Floral and fruit on the nose. Even on day 2 the nose takes some swirling and coaxing. Boysenberry , blueberry fruit, almost smells like a Bevan type cab (once you get the aromas going) but clearly not a cab on the palate. Palate much bigger on day 2 with big ripe fruit and a long sweetish finish (not sweet, the wine is dry, but gives a sweet fruit impression). Some hints of Syrah spice and licorice. Long finish. Very nice but so much better on day 2. I think this needs at least a few more years but glad I tried out of curiosity.

This is a placeholder as I only had a 1/2 glass last night. I plan to open the bottle tonight for the full experience.

Dark purple black in the glass with strong smells. Fruits of blackberry, either currants or plum with blackberry pie. Tons of chocolate and mineral notes. I think that my score will go higher and not lower. We shall see. It needs a nice decant as well!

PHILLY CT GATHERING-DR CRANE NIGHT
I haven’t had many single varietal Petit Verdot, but I have to imagine this is one of the best representations coming from Napa. It certainly held its own against the cab savs poured last evening.
Deep garnet in color with baked plums on the nose. Rich red and black fruits, more plums, black cherries and red currants. Finishes with plush tannins, cedar box and black pepper with a streak of scorched earth.
A very unique and satisfying bottle of wine. Thanks to the cyclist for bringing this along

Three hour decant. Very deep dark magenta color. Blackberry, boysenberry, bitter chocolate, slate, and Rice Krispies. Dry, satiny, full bodied palate. Firm, full tannins on the long finish.

Youth is the only flaw here. This has terrific structure and mouthfeel. The fruit is intense and voluptuous. My notes don’t do this justice.

Curious in light of the 97 rating from Suckling. Dark ruby fruit - currants, blackberry, and dark raspberry. Smooth mid-palate with decent depth/concentration - medium/medium plus body. Nice flavors of cassis, some spice, oak, and a mineral/graphite component. Fairly long finish. Decanted for five hours and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time. Revisited on day three and it was better as it opened-up further. Obviously really young and some improvement is expected with more time but I don’t see the 97 rating - hopefully more time proves me wrong. In my opinion, the 93+ and 94 ratings from Dunnuck and WE make more sense. According to Dunnuck, give it three to five years which I can’t argue due to the improvement on day three and the mountain fruit source on Atlas Peak. A solid cab at $79 in the secondary market but interesting price disparity with the Winery direct price. 100% cab.

2019 Kind Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Lewelling Ranch St. Helena

11/26/2023 - #1Winelover Likes this wine: 97 points

Could be higher than 97 points and definitely the best bottle I have ever had from The Lewelling Vineyard. This is an historic vineyard on the western slopes of The Mayacamas Mountains. The Vineyard begins on the downward slopes and ends on Route 29. Farmed by the same family since the 1800's, it is finally getting the recognition that it deserves based on selling fruit to others and the others labeling it as Lewelling Vineyard!

This wine is singing right now. Full-bodied, black and blue fruit, strong yet well integrated tannins. Dark purple in the glass, a great balance of acid, tannins and long-aging structure. A little creamy with a mineral streak that cuts through everything. chocolate notes on the mid-palate and on the long finish. I haven't had a sip in 15 minutes and I still taste this gem in my mouth. It is a great representation of wine from St. Helena.

90-minute decant. Deep dark vibrant magenta color. Blackberry, dark raspberry, dried mushroom, bay leaf, toffee, and subtle fig. Smooth, dry palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

This is nicely aged and easy drinking. It’s got very pleasant tertiary notes. After spending several days in the Balkans, this was a nice transition back to American wine (and by “American” I mean Napa CS).

2021 Realm Cellars Farella Vineyard

Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon more

4/21/2024 - #1Winelover Likes this wine: 97 points

I couldn't wait to try this as Realm's version of Farella is 100%. The label even got an upgrade! I don't usually comment on labels and unlike most, I prefer old school labels. That said, the artwork is very cool. Now onto the vino...

Like usual, very dark purple and black with strong smells. Blackberries, blueberries and plum. It starts off rich and creamy with vanilla notes and then the mineral attacks you in the middle and throughout the finish. The finish includes blackberry dark chocolate (think Kiva). Tannins are pronounced and need time -- either with a healthy decant or an aerator.

This is not really ready as of now. I tried a 1/2 glass from PnP and it tasted more like a barrel sample than the finished product. After 4 hours of decanting it and then pouring it through an aerator for the 1st glass, it was just awesome!

97+ with upside. I can only imagine what this will taste like in 3-5 years.

4/22/2024 4:07:00 AM - I always have thought that it was the hidden gem in the Realm line up. It gives the biggest bang for the buck. So different than any other wines from Farella. And with AG's expert decanting skills, it should shine.

Tasted with Jack over some pre-dinner nibbles. Made by Graeme MacDonald from Ecotone vineyard (former Abreu thorevilos).

Just my opinion, but this wine will shine in 15-20 years. Right now it showed powerful fruit with profound structure and a notable savory earthen character. I would not say it straddles the line between new and old world—rather, it distinctly shows some new world qualities side by side old world qualities. Like one foot on each side of the door.

Wait 5 years on this one. It is a pretty unique wine that shows differently from majority of Napa wines I’ve tried.

This is intensely decadent and really needs an hour decant to show its best. It’s a super easy drinker with legit structure. I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as my last bottle due to lack of aeration.

94 on day 1 and 96 on day 2. But it could be higher so I was generous.

This is a dark brooding wine that needs a healthy decant and/or should be put away for several years. It was tight on day 1 but still solid. It was very drinkable after I worked with it (decanted for a couple of hours). Dark black and blue in the glass with fruit to match. Teeth staining richness, full-bodied and full-flavored. Mocha mid to late palate with a nice mineral streak throughout.

This is the 1st single vineyard sourced from The Haas Vineyard - high up on Diamond Mountain. A great find, great wine, great location (sense of place), great people, great winemaker -- all with a solid QPR.

Picked up at auction a month ago. I had no idea of this wine in spite of drinking Trespass for a while, now. First wine of the night with Agelvis in town!

This was double decanted for an hour then back into the bottle. What amazing viscosity. Twice that of the regular Trespass.....

Dark magenta in the glass. Nose of blue and red fruit, a hint of violets and cedar.

Palate of milk chocolate, red balanced fruit. Full bodied, well balanced and a great finish with perfect acidity which lengthens the finish quite well. Chalky smooth at the end of the bottle 3 more hours in.......

Enjoyed the 2019 vintage and curious about this vintage - thinking about buying some to lay down but wanted to get an idea where it’s at first. Dark ruby fruit - currants, blackberry, dark cherry, and some plum. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration. Nice vibrant flavors of cassis, baking spices/herbs, cocoa, and a little graphite component. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. Slow ox during the day for around ten hours and decanted for a couple more. Enjoyable at this youthful stage but as expected I would give it a couple years to let it open-up/develop further. According to the Winery, approachable at an early age but expect an exquisite evolution over the next fifteen years. Sourced from Napa Valley vineyards including Sleeping Lady, Tench, and Rocca’s Collinetta Vineyard. 93/94 for me at this youthful stage. 98% cab sauvignon and 2% cab franc.
