A long search found its end in La Foresta on Monteisula ( the island in Lago Iseo), lucky me :)

N. Full but yet very straight and elegant, very complex with multiple notes of bakery and cakes.
Mineral, fish, salt and jodium is also somewhere far in the background.

T. Super acid balance, bitter notes again super elegant (=top balanced).

Maybe the best Franciacorta I have had in my whole life!

How did it go? I have tasted the wine a few more times, always a very pleasant experience.
I am super interested what you and the rest of the guests have thought about the wine…

    Kind regards, Thomas

2020 Kechris Tear of the Pine Retsina

Macedonia Assyrtiko more

7/27/2021 - Thegreen1985 Likes this wine: 91 points

Greek white wine from Macedonia: Assyrtiko. Fermented in new oak barrels of varying origins and types. Aged for 6 months on the lees. 13,5 % alcohol.

Pale golden color.

Aromas of pine needles, minerals, honey melon and hints of lemon. Distinct flavors of pine resin and lemon. Hints of green apple and vanilla. Strong minerality in the background.

Dry. Medium body. Fresh acidity. Good balance. Very good structure. Some complexity.

Short finish with pine needle.

First, if you don’t like pine resin, don’t buy this wine. Someone not familiar with resin might associate the flavor with mold bread.

In my taste this is a quality wine with clear and enjoyable flavors of pine resin. It improves with air and when it warms up a bit from fridge temperature. Its very refreshing on its own and very good with food (cheese, barbecued veggies, chicken and pork). The highlights are a nice intensity and minerality, plus a quality structure. On the negative side it’s not very elegant or complex. 91/100

It´s better not to count all these old days as student, these days, when you've drunk in Greece to much of that - what was the name? - retsina. Horrible! And than - 30 or 40 years later (it feels good to be unprecise) - you drink "tear of the pine". Well: different. Still very particular, but extremely drinkable. Nose: Mellow pine resin, of course, mixed with a bit lovage and rosemary. Apple packed with lemon ... assyrtico, in a beautiful way. Taste: Pine resin, followed by lemon zest, apple jelly and a nice "grippy" acidity. I´ll have more of it to wipe out my old memories.

So!....lucky to find this bottle...my wine merchant got a small shipment in recently .
Bottle #2.
On nose and palate: similar notes from my April review , lots of minerality, apple , quince , chamomile , and a wonderful full, sleek body weight without being heavy.
As it warms up , notes of witbier hops , meyer lemon and barley sugar, balance the acidity....one of the best Italian whites....goes perfectly with Salmon or roast chicken.

Retailer Tasting. The wine was dark ruby in colour and had an expressive nose. It was very fruity, with ripe red fruit, black currant, plum, a hint of bell pepper, chocolate and lots of mint. The tannin was ripe yet slightly coarse and the medium-level acidity felt somewhat artificial. The medium- to full-bodied wine was ripe, broad and flabby. It was flattering, but lacked structure and depth. Some will rate this higher, but to me this is a pass.

The 2015 Orwin Swift Papillon is one of the highlights of the Orwin Swift tasting, also one of the premium bottles retail at £60 a bottle. It is a Cabernet Sauvignon driven Bordeaux blend. It is classic in style with charming merlot fragrant, lush black berry, cassis, cedar, dark cherry and tobacco. The most elegant red of the flight with good complexity. Full bodied and high alcohol at 15.5%. Tannic grip and tight on the palate, it needs more time to resolve.

Deep garnet, bright garnet rim.

Nose: Cassis, stewed blackberry, pen ink, sagebrush, cocoa powder. Dense projection

Mouth: Massive on the palate: Stewed blackberry, cassis, creme de menthe, black licorice and dark earth come across in layers extremely smooth and dense ahead of a finish of dark cocoa creme and extremely faint tannins. Stacked, it unfolds in waves giving up different notes over a period of seconds.

Overall: This is big, alcoholic, offering a lot in terms of pure flavor, and is perhaps one of the most seamless wines I've ever had. It's fair to say however, that it's missing finesse. There is essentially no backbone to speak of. Typically you would want to see some kind of acid to provide lift, none of that's here. The fruit is richer, stewier, the net effect becomes cloying/overbearing, like you need sips of water between wine.

Finally, the stewed fruits are for me not something that should appear in a $75 wine. That’s a matter of personal preference, but if it makes me wonder if my wine is oxidized, it's an issue. All in all: the kitchen sink is definitely here, but more may not necessarily be more.

91.

This was actually more like oak fermented in Chardonnay, instead of oak matured Chardonnay, lol :-D
I wanted a full bodied white wine with my Christmas dish, well, I got it.

Although there was still acidity and citrus, most of the flavors were oak and vanilla.

People at the table thought this was a sweet wine. Tried to explain to them this is a dry wine but the "sweetness" came from the abundance of oak.

Not bad, but also not very complex.
A nice drinking wine.

    4/15/2020 12:10:00 AM - Hi there,

    Thanks for your comment!

The wine is good, but I did not like it very much and it‘s bang for the bucks factor was not satisfying - nonetheless, I will give it a second try! The price would (by the way) not increase or decrease the rating, in a longer commenting I would have noted it, and I remember it still now. As said, as soon as I am back to Switzerland, there will be a second round :)

Nailed, well, I said that there is nothing spectacular interesting or elegant - I think you need this „spectacular“ moment in a wine to rate it above 90/100 or 18/20, would you not agree?

    Stay save and healthy!

Visiting Roxanich winery (Istria, Croatia): Tasted at the winery. A very nice Cabernet Sauvignon, good fruit, good tannins, but rather anonymous in my opinion. Definitely European style though, comparable to a good Bordeaux.

Straightforward, traditional sangiovese. Quite austere, bone dry, good concentration, still a little bit harsh, tannic, but no bitterness. Subdued frut, no discernible oak, clean, nice old world style - I would like to see more wines like this.
