Krug tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Riedel Superleggero Champagne
Magnum, assumed from the 90ies. Clear, deep golden color. Ripe nose. On the palate a bit sweet, slightly oxidized, lacks energy and tension. But still balanced and harmonious with a lively acidity. A bit past, but still joyful. 90

Had it with leftover chicken. It's everything I don't like about Italian wines. Just can’t seem to taste past the sourness.

    I gave a bottle of it to my daughter and son-in-law and they said they loved it; don't know if they were just being polite, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
    Purchased at K & L auction because I liked the label.

    6/8/2022 9:46:00 PM - Thanks, bugles. When I purchased this wine at auction, the K & L provenance note said they were kept in a climate controlled wine cellar and I have kept them in my passive, north facing, windowless cellar for the last two years.
    I'm just installing a WhisperKOOL system to keep my wine - mostly cabs and Rhones - at the proper temperature, but have been curious as to what temperatures destroy wines. My cellar hardly ever got over 70 degrees; 50's in the winer, 60's in the summer. But maybe that was enough to ruin some that are sensitive to temperature.
    One of my wine salesmen (at Kermit Lynch) is pretty much laissez-faire about wine storage and thought my passive cellar was fine, but I just don't know.

Until now, all the Pax wines I've had were excellent and with all the hype, I was looking forward to dinking this bottle, but I did not enjoy it. Watered down, somehow diluted. We had it with a vegetarian chana masala and I was wanting a robust wine, but was disappointed.

    12/3/2021 6:29:00 PM - Thanks for your comment. I consider Northern Rhone wines robust as they are sometimes over the top, at least for my palate. They can sometimes overwhelm the food. Pax wines are generally the big-breasted girl at the party. I keep going back to them, but this Sonoma Hillsides bottle was the girl I thought I would like, but it never got past the first date.

There are still undiscovered wineries in the Willamette Valley, Hundred Suns is one of them. The Grenache 2017 is faultless. There is a perfume on the the nose. It’s full bodied with a hint of carbon, dark fruit and a pleasant lingering spice through out. Should it be available I would highly recommend. Contacts are Grant and Renée 503 435 8846. I’m not in anyway associated with this winery. I just feel like I found a real gem.
