The aromas are of cherries, plums, forest floor, and just a tinge of menthol. The flavors are of cherries, plums, mushrooms, with a hint of tar. The wine has a medium body with acid slightly less than balance demands, making it less fresh. There are soft tannins. The finish is quite long with lingering fruit. ABV 14%. Decanted 1/2 bottle with a Coravin. Tasted immediately, then after 1 and 2 hours. Drank after 3 hours. Recommend giving it 2 hours in decanter, then begin drinking to follow the wine as it opens more in the glass. The next day I prepared to take this to a friend's for a tasting and double decanted the remaining 1/2. Then forgot to take it. It sat for 2 days in the bottle with the cork inserted. Opened it on the 3rd day, expecting not much. I was very happy with the wine after all that. The wine added more mushroom and some secondary aromas: tar, pencil lead, cedar. The balance was better, and it seemed more integrated. The wine added some herbal flavors to the palate. The finish was still long, but the fruit forward finish off before became a long continuation of the palate. Quite nice. I upped my score to 92 (from 89). Do you find this review helpful? The nose is pretty muted after hours of decanting. There are classic barolo notes, rose, red cherry (mature), tar. No detectable oak. Leather and resin wood shows the age of the wine. A clear nose, but lacking in intensity and complexity. It is in the mouth where the wine truly shines: the entrance is vertical, characterized by high and yet rounded acidity, high mature tannins, medium body and medium+ alcol. In the mid palate the tannins becomes slightly more stalky, making the wine fall off balance. The aftertaste is dominated by red cherry and leather notes. Medium length, with persistent tannins. A graceful product, but there are too many errors to make this wine go into 90+ territory. The lack of intensity in the nose, the spiky tannins in the mid palate, the lack of equilibrium in the aftertaste. More work is needed for this product. Do you find this review helpful? A single vineyard wine from the plains of Cerretta in the Serralunga d'Alba area of the eastern part of the region. Clay and limestone brings a fourth dimension to this wine - much more mineral-driven compared to the Barolo's from La Morra (both in nose and taste). Besides obvious red fruit, the nose reveals green herbs of mint and eucalyptus. Very dry taste with a stringent and erect mouthfeel and with high tannins. Clearly too young for consumption in 2019. Brandini is a relatively new up-and-coming producer in the industri, but I must say, that I believe the hype, when I taste the juice. A garnet red color in the glass. Fresh forrest strawberries and sour red and black cherries. Floral notes of roses and savory notes of anise and tobacco. The taste fruity with surprisingly soft tannins for such a young wine. The palate has quince, apple, kiwi, layered over a limestone base. As it warms, it adds a whiff of tar to the nose and an earthy note to the palate. Medium+ acid. It has a medium body with soft mouth-feel and a medium+ finish. ABV 13.5%. Good QPR. Nicely made wine, especially if you're looking for something without much citrus.
