Decent table wine. Easily drinkable but lacks structure, complexity and finish.

Pale straw color, med+ viscosity. Aromas of tropical fruit and ripe honeydew. Bracing acidity and soft mineralogy on the palate. Fruity but dry. Interesting, tasty white.

Nose of freshly squeezed cherry juice and a hint of rosemary and mint. Deep ruby color; fairly dense. Earth, cherry liqueur, black currants and red pepper on the palate, with some spice notes (a subtle cinnamon, perhaps) near the end and on the finish. Strong acidity and fine tannins. It almost seems like there is some Primitivo blended in, but the label says that it is 100% Aglianico. A very nice wine, that I would definitely buy again. Went nicely with grilled marinated flank steaks and black bean rice.

A southern nebbiolo on the nose with sweet, dried cherries and underlying gravel/minerals. The semi-dried grapes shine through on the ripe, full, slightly confected palate. The palate (which has a kirsch aspect) is not unbalanced and has enough acidity. Plenty of tannins on the finish. All in all, this is would be a nice wine to have around, and I certainly expect it to get better with a few more years of age.

The Golden Glass (Herbst Pavilion, Fort Mason, San Francisco): Wow, i enjoyed this even more than the Sicone. Again, it was the very end of the day so my note-taking was nonexistent, but this is one i will seek out. From the distributor: Valle del Trono is made from the best Aglianico vineyards in the southern Vulture appellation. Basilium processes the grapes from all the small growers in the consortium around Acerenza, allowing them to set aside the finest fruit for the long patient process of producing Aglianico del Vulture in the traditional manner. Judicious use of seasoned oak, without micro-oxygenation or other "modern" enhancements results in a medium-bodied wine, ready to be enjoyed with Southern Italian food.

The Golden Glass (Herbst Pavilion, Fort Mason, San Francisco): It's the end of the day and i'd stopped taking notes, but this was impressive. Fresh red berries and baking spice aromatics, reminiscent of a young RRV pinot noir. Surprisingly medium bodied and delicate for the grape. From the distributor: "Sicone" is a deep ruby red with a spicy nose, velvety mouth-feel, and elegant tannins. Cherry, blackberry, violet, licorice, bitter chocolate, and black pepper pair perfectly with roasts, especially lamb, pecorino and ripe cheeses, sausage and game.

Ruby with an orange hue. Ash and creosete, plum and razzberry on the nose. A more tradtionally styled wine, this mid level aglianico is a[pproachable now. It has an elegant mouthfeel, raspberry, tobacco, silky tannins, and a pleasant, dry finish.

Shiny garnet red. Decanted for an hour or two, which it needed as the nose took a while to come together. Nose of blackcurrant fruit, some coffee and pepper in there too. A small amount of oak too. On the palate the attack is blackcurrant, coffee and some oaky vanilla. The balance is very good by now, the tannin is integrated and fine and the acidity keeps the wine nice and fresh. A lot of liquorice on the finish. Glad I cellared this one.
