4/13/2024 - Keith Levenberg Likes this wine: NRSecond time with this and I'm still finding it a little compact and closed in on itself and harder to get a read on than usual. Structurally it has that clenched bite and piercing, snappy fruit in both red and black tones that make up the essential ingredients of what I love about the Becot style. There is some tight-grained cedar from the oak but the glossy fruit mostly smooths it over. Whatever else it's got is still packed into the core. |

First time trying this chateau and I have to agree with the plurality of previous reviews that this just lacks a bit of something. Still has a nice medium-dark purple red color. The initial nose was a little soft, with some very fruit forward notes of cassis, black currant and cherries. Not a lot of tannin here, very much sanded down. In the first 30 minutes of drinking (undecanted) I almost would’ve guessed California cab. After an a hour or so it developed a bit of secondary aroma with tobacco, cedar and a bit wet earth balancing out the fruit and elevated the wine a point or so in my opinion. Honestly not sure this rises to the level of other Grand Cru Classe B but it’s a contender. Good, just not amazing - but not bad for the price. |

Herbal notes (spearmint and tomato?), cherry, old leather on the nose. Black cherry, herbal tones, earth, and leather on the palate with 35 sec finish. Strong acidity that begs for food pairing, which definitely enhanced both food (short rib pasta) and wine. Still felt young but beautifully made and a nice birthday treat. |
