Mørk, nesten svart i glasset. Aroma av solbær og jord. Klar frukt, tre og litt stall på smak. Kjølig og med lange, flotte tanniner.

Pale yellow, with aromas of honeysuckle, yellow apple, white peach, and some beeswax, along with lychee and something mineral. Relatively light bodied, high acidity, and surprisingly unstructured, though that classic Rhone white viscosity or waxiness runs is noticeable. Disappointingly short finish.

Honestly, this was a disappointment given the Graillot pedigree and the price; a well-made but surprisingly uninteresting wine. Curious how much of this reflects what was just a tough vintage in the Rhone. Worked well enough with braised tuna.

14% alcohol. Pretty good cork (well, the sizeable defect was on the upper side of the cork, luckily). Decanted an hour ahead. Dark colour with no sign of ageing.
The nose is very bright and engaging, certainly dark fruited but very pure; black olive too, but only in the background. Similarly pure in the mouth with vg intensity and a notably silky mouthfeel. High class and very long. In a word, superb!
This wine feels rounder and less wild than what Alain (the father) used to produce in C-H, possibly because of the different de-stemming regimen. There are swings and roundabouts here; what you gain in in refinement you lose in character and maybe in ageability.
In any case, this wine is hugelyy enjoyable and ready to drink, and it is true to its Northern Rhône origin. A resounding success and a repeat purchase.

As a postscript, I will add that I returned to my previously favoured Riedel Hermitage glass on this occasion; well, the glass is still stunning visually, but how clunky it feels in the hand and on the lips compared to my current favourite Sensory Conterno glass !

[0.5] Blinds at Ungrafted w/ Andrea (Ungrafted, SF): (blind)
Deep opaque ruby.
heavy, ripe fruit-forward nose. Slight funky - reduction or mushrooms maybe? Something vegetal but not pyrazines - tomato leaf.
slight dark note - maybe reduction, maybe pepper. Hard to tell.
Dry, high alcohol - 14.5% (actually 12.5%!), high acid - very sour, almost aggressively sour, elevated tannings.

This is a wild wine. Dark color, big body, ripe fruit, elevated acid:

- Cab - doesn't feel right because no pyrazines, no oak, fruit feels underripe plum
- Malbec - could fit, but it's so sour.
- Syrah - too sour for Australia, too ripe for N rhone.

Final call: 2022 Malbec, Argentina.
Syrah from crozes-hermitage 2020.

Analysis
- alcohol - I called it higher - it's actually 12.5%
- logic: should have double-clicked on N Rhone.
Overall this is a really clean, really fruit-forward, and really sour syrah.

Score: 2 misses

Tasted at the "Vue de Monde" restaurant in Melbourne..
Surprisingly light and lithe on its feet. charming and round faintly reminiscent of Chateau Rayas' wines even though the latter are predominantly made from Grenache.
Then some lively acidity and some earthy characteristics jump out. None of them overwhelming, leaving an elegant impression with the taster.

Very good on the nose. Too good. As a 2018 which I’m drinking in late 2023, perhaps I must let this open up significantly? But the nose is a bit of a liar; on the palate it’s just not quite there. It’s a bit “green” at first sip. I don’t really taste what I thought I would and it moves from flat to very unbalanced as it finishes. I can’t pick out whether this is tannic, bitter, sour or all three in an odd proportion (with a rather noticeable bitter finish as it hangs around in my mouth). I also can’t really make out in the taste what I had smelled on the nose. I had thought this was sort of in the middle of its drinking window but maybe not. I’ve had much better French reds at this price point. I’d also note that a straight 14% abv is a bit on the high side for French wines. Not terrible but not one I’d race to buy again.

This is really good, especially for the price. Lots of raspberry, strawberry, cherry, blackberry, and plum fruit, but with enough acidity to make it lithe and good with food. I get chocolate, leather, smoke, and spicy garrigue on the finish along with stemmy tannins, like a whole cluster sort of taste. You can taste the soil here too. It tastes like a Syrah, but is still very bright. I love that. Great match with BBQ chicken. Has plenty of life left, but drank well now after about an hour of air. I should buy more of these bottles.

No notes and this was a coravined bottle from 2 years ago. Still in a good condition though.
On the leaner side of 2015 Rhône’s I’ve tried. Really likeable and I would not hesitate to buy again. A pristine bottle would keep well for another 5 years or so.

Sub-par performance from the producer surely, neither in balance, nor closed - simply a poor drinking experience, the wine clearly unfit for serving. Dark & dense mulberry/plum in appearance. Nose f pour restrained & flat, opening up to bitter-roasted black olives, a tad of earth & quite frankly not much more until a bit of dark fruit jam appears an hour past pop. Palate kicks-off equally restrained & flat, w gentle aeration a bit of OK juice leading to a somewhat grainy, extremely bitter-roasted, unbalanced close.

Dark fruit, oak, meat, pepper and black olives. Classic northern Rhône on the nose. Fairly decent tannins, but just the right amount of acid and properly adjusted oak but the fruit feels a little too thin and not particularly concentrated. Lasts at least 3-4 more years in the cellar.

Savory and smoky nose with meat flavors, olives, red fruit, and cherry notes. Lots of acidity on the palate with a good amount of tannins, more red fruit, tart berries, and red cherries. Long finish. Delicious and interesting wine with nice depth. Would love to see where this goes in 10+ years. 94++

Dark garnet colour. Spice, wet slate, prunes on the nose. On the palate, dark fruit, blackberry and pepper. All in all, an okay Syrah, but I can't see it winning any converts to the genre.

Had to open one for science… Violets, floral, black cherries, olive tapenade, savory, and gamey notes on the nose. Good balance with pretty high acidity, more dark/black fruit flavors, saline notes, violets, and a bit of smoke on the palate. Good finish. Very young but really quite delicious and promising. I would tuck these away for 10 years… 93-94+

Didn't get to try this when it was young but I think this bottle might have been on the decline. Nose is great, wild, feral, sour cherry soup, and some cave funk. On the palate it's tart, lacking freshness and a bit chalky, presenting as cool climate Syrah. In some ways it reminds me of a tart sour cherry loire valley red but the finish is acidic and vinegary. Oh well.

Colour - purple with a slight brown tinge on edges
Nose - Raspberry and rose petal notes.
Palate - Ripe black currant fruit, slightly tart and lean texture on first taste. With further consumption I conclude that is a very nice wine to enjoy with food that has a smooth fruity mid palate that integrates and balances nicely with a soft dry tannin finish.
Drinking well now.

Really great wine , had it in Zalto Bordeaux where it did best , next best glass was the Zalto Universal.
Deep dark colour on the nose there was very faint notes of blueberries / blackberries as well as some yogurt notes , the same was going on , on the palate super drinkability. Had it with chicken korma.

Beautiful blend of Marsanne-Roussanne grapes. On the nose, there is a abundance of pineapple and pear. It takes some time for the pineapple to give way to other characters such as honeysuckle, lemon and earthy notes. Medium bodied and very subtle touch of oak.

This is really good wine - far better than I remembered from tasting this young, when I liked it, but did not see the complexity or depth. Nose positively dripping with bacon fat. Plum and blackberry, a tad brambly. In a blind, I'd have thought a mid-level Hermitage, not a Crozes. Hazelnut. Black pepper. Lavendar. Palate beautifully balanced, if rich. Plenty of acid, intense rocky minerality and some soil notes. Fruit there and strong - but balanced with secondary development. Very long, complex finish.
