Started out with minimal aroma, needed time to open. Aroma of black fruit, blackberry, cherry, currant, earth, light spice and cedar. Black fruit, cherry, currant, earth, spice flavors. soft tannin in the finish. Part of a larger tasting.

My second of 2 bottles, and once again it was excellent, and showing no signs of over age. Tasting profile is per my note from 12 months ago.

Another Emirates bottle, this time on the ground in their Dubai lounge. Confirms my impression from the last bottle and seems even more advanced this time. Clearly in the yellow fruit spectrum, quince and so on, oak still very noticeable. Not my kind of Corton Charlie.

Had two bottles within one week, from my cellar; bought retail Nov. 2019. Both bottles very golden, low acid, but no TCA or premox on the nose. But the first bottle was tired; no energy, no liveliness. Second bottle was better but not as good as a bottle I served March 2023 which needed decant time and scored 93 pts. In my experience, this wine needs drinking and soon...

Another Wine gathering at RJ’s; 4/4/2024-4/7/2024 (Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina): Beautiful perfectly mature nose displaying delicious yellow fruit, peach, pineapple, banana, crème brûlée, vanilla, spicy spices and limestone. Perfectly integrated palate, delicate yet generous yellow fruit, elegant and airy, perfect amount of acidity and mineral and a long ripe yellow fruit driven elegant finish. This is a super pleasant surprise. Drinks more like Chevalier.

Acquired a half case just about seven years ago, and the wine has been sleeping in my cellar since acquisition. Decided to acquire the half case after a generally positive history with the 2009. This was the first bottle opened from the 2015 vintage. Upon review of my 2009 notes, I regret not tracking things better. After 5 years the 2009 was a lovely wine, but by the 8 year mark (a late 2017 tasting after I had acquired the 2015 earlier in 2017) the aging had not been kind. I find this bottle a consistent (and disappointing) experience with the 2009 at the 8 year mark. While one bottle does not condemn the vineyard and producer to purgatory, the trajectory from tonight’s tasting (especially in light of the exalted vintage) is headed to the “No Buy” category.

Good ruby color with no bricking. A dark ruby cork that was well sealed. Aromatically this offers the expected aromas with cherry, damp loamy soil, licorice, and red berries. On the palate, the attack is predominantly influenced by a tart cherry that overwhelms everything else. The mid-palate is very hollow with a quick transition through to the finish where the tannin dries out the tart cherry from the attack.

For the vintage, this lacks finesse, elegance, charm, evolution, and flavor. I should have paid better attention and consumed this earlier in the bottle life. I don’t see this undergoing a magical transition. I hope this bottle suffers from Burgundy variability, but my optimism is low this is solely bottle variation.

This was disappointing. I know, I know: Le Maconnais, sub-$40 Burgundy, all that. Still, disappointing.

Pale gold in the glass, and a fairly extensive bouquet of yellow apple, quince, chalk or crushed gravel, and a surprising amount of tropical fruit - mango and pineapple or star fruit. But on the palate, this is flabbier than anticipated, with limited acidity and structure, and a flinty bitterness that covers up virtually any other quality of the wine. Never have I more wanted a wine to have a bit of oak structure or backbone. Worked fine with roasted salmon and mustard & oil-tossed veggies - mainly cause the wine stayed out of the way, hiding under its flabby bitterness.

It shows the vintage? Overly evolved, little fruit and harsh tanins upon opening. Air did bring out some spices and mellowed the tanins but the nose is still evolved and it’s lacking fruit. Not a winner.
