3/30/2024 - BradleyL wrote: 87 pointsAccording to Vom Boden, the 2021 vintage is the last vintage from these vines - due to the age and location of this vineyard (which has 70 years of history). I very much admire what Ulli Stein does in preserving the cultural heritage of so many of these historical sites and this is very much an educational wine (I don't think there is much Elbling produced nowadays in the region anyways). That being said, this does feel like more of a science experiment and something for novelty rather than something I would purchase multiple bottles of. |

3/18/2024 - SirFred wrote: 88 pointsNothing extravagant about the nose; some sweet fruit , but a bit yeasty at this young stage. The wine glides through the palate with a touch of sweet ripe fruit that is quickly swallowed up by globs of dry and bitter pungent minerality that lingers on the finish. There is something unpleasant in the mid palate that was off-putting, sort of like mildew. Perhaps an off bottle or TCA. Nonetheless, lacking complexity and definition. Maybe more will develop with time, but this wine falls quite short of the St Aldegunder feinherb, though to be fair, it is only about half the price. |

3/18/2024 - jviz Does not like this wine: 87 pointsMore natural than good. Some hay, apple juice, and minerals but one comment as we drank it, "every time I have a german wine that isn't reisling, I feel it isn't living up to the potential of the terroir". Based on how good the other Uli Stein wines are, I can't disagree. |

3/18/2024 - Putnam Weekley Likes this wine: 93 pointsI like the fact that this wine is in a relatively awkward phase; it gives me reason to hope for the future of the remaining bottles. The most delicate perfumes are now withdrawn, and the leading edge of the tannin complex is ground and worn. That leaves a brooding mulch of pencil lead and black berry solids, tiptoe-weighted as ever. The place where a sensation of intense dryness had been is now modulated by minced sage, mushroom, dried mint, and opium. It's a reclined, ideologically fertile object. Given its novelty, I am allowing for a certain prognostic margin of error. Consider drinking another bottle in 2025-26, for parallax. 92 |

2022 Stein Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett feinherb Alte RebenMosel Saar Ruwer more |
3/2/2024 - CADomer Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis was youthful and incredibly energetic with notes of delicious tangy peach and mouthwatering spice. As is typically the case with this bottling, it is slightly more giving than the Palmberg bottling and had a ripeness of fruit in the approach. But was wonderfully elegant and fresh with a great zippy finish. |

2/24/2024 - breadSheeran wrote: NRMy friends enjoyed this more than I did. It was good, certainly, with lots of pretty but bold dark fruit and forest floor, but the overall greenness felt unbalanced to me and the tannins were a bit too tight. I think this may be excellent in a few years. |

2/29/2024 - KeithAkers wrote: 91 pointsAcid Compass #4-Ft Vom Boden wines (and friends) with Jon Ritchie (E&R Wines, Portland OR): The nose is electric and filled with delicious tension as it permeates in the glass with tones of pears, green apples, saline, crushed rocks, fresh herbs, white fruits, white flowers, and some melon notes. There is good depth with a real verve to the tones that keeps bringing my nose back to the glass. The Lighter bodied feel has some weight for a Kabinett while still showing off a deftness along with tart, high acidity that also shows off some of the tension of the nose. This is a lot of fun and a real tasty Kabinett. This certainly can age, but it would sure be a shame to not enjoy what it brings right now. |

2021 Stein Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett feinherbMosel Saar Ruwer more |
3/2/2024 - SirFred Likes this wine: 91 pointsNot much coming out of the glass aromatically; wild yeast, some ripe tropical fruit, with hints of wet stone and herbs. Nice dry but ultra-suave mouthfeel with medium acidity, stony minerality, and some taut green herbal notes. Sadly, the finish is short and does not leave a lasting impression. First time with this producer, and I was not expecting much, but in comparison to other feinherb/kabinett wines from Mosel I’ve had, I was pleased with this wine. Particularly, I like the smooth flow and overall balance, as well as the taut mineral and herbal notes. Personally, I find most Mosel kabinett (even feinherb), to be too ripe, conveying an impression of sweetness; in contrast, this wine was relatively dry and taut, pairing better with food. Don’t know if further time in bottle will bring out more aromatically or on the finish, but there is plenty on the palate to enjoy now, although it will likely continue to drink well for many years. |

Lovely nose, red berries and a hint of spice, leafiness, minerally freshness; dry but juicy palate, crisp and fresh, black cherries; hint of liquorice on the finish. |

2/22/2024 - Sotto325 wrote: 89 pointsAgree that this is an interesting approach and it was indeed a bit unexpected compared with many other Riesling Sekts. A nice darker hue with a nose more of apple cider vinegar and apple, with a flavor profile that was acid- driven rather than hints of tropical fruit as one gets with older Lauer Sekts. Well made but not a lot going on. |
