After having it opened for over an hour, we found that there was a bit of sour...maybe a little bitter up front, that then revealed some cabernet-ness afterwords on the mid palate. Lovely on the nose... floral, some spice... finish was mid range as well. Went really well with a reverse seared ribeye steak...made the wine a bit peppery...as well as with a raw kale salad with pine nuts and peccorino romano-based dressing...went well with the toasted pine nuts and garlic cheese combo, in particular |

This The Spaniard was a delicious paring with the smoked/spiced turkey that hit the right notes. This wine enhanced both the wine and the turkey on the paring. We've always LOVED The Spaniard. it was the wine that brought us to join our first wine club. This was just one of a crap ton of other reasons. spice, peppery, with just some fruit after it opened up after a couple of hours. Hope the 2018 will be as good as the 2017 |

We make a very spicy turkey. Lobe the pairing with dark meat. White meat is good too, but the dark meat is a touch better...magic with that pairing. Also went great with a Make Ahead Mashed Potato Casserole. The Spaniard on the nose: spice. bramble. on the palate. some tannins...spicy...good structure. it's no zin (which we probably drink most). black fruits. earthy...leathery. but well balanced. |

Really liked this. night 1: i tried it with smoked lamb loin chops. this wine was so big it made the lamb disappear. put a vacuum cork on it. didn't touch it night 2, Night 3: ate it with a reverse seared bbq ribeye steak. That's the ticket. Peppery up front...a hint of sour on the backbeat. |

11/4/2023 - calimo Likes this wine: 86 pointsWe really liked this wine. The more we read about Petite Sirah, the more we think this should be our ideal wine. This one did not disappoint! After the bottle was open for about an hour, we had a sip. Make sure you give this bottle at least 2 hours to open up. we increasingly liked it as time went forward. On the nose...a touch of barnyard and plum...maybe sugarplum? on the palate: bold! delish! black pepper spice notes, maybe some tobacco or leather? maybe even a touch of smoke? i love smoky scotch (islay), so this is always a good thing for me. Tannins...that lasted through the finish. a somewhat spicy finish. Good weight. Excellent pairing with a smoked and reverse seared porkchop (bone in). The combo made the pork spicier and the wine sweeter. Amazing. We call that magic in our home. Really good paring with roasted root veggies as well. We are told we score low.
